Their are plenty of bootlegs from Asian countries, I own one of Videodrome.

god, you guys are saints - i would've posted in the main criterion thread, but i was worried my question would get buried quickly.

i'm comparing as best as i can to the photos on that site, but if you'd all be so kind, perhaps you can give me a second opinion with these snaps:

1) http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/6...01204at111.png

i was worried that the word/fading print on the Blu-Ray logo in particular meant it was used or a bootleg, but it seems like it's the same in that criterion site's pics for the digipak.

2) TOP: http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/6...01204at111.png

and

3) SIDE: http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/6...01204at111.png

actually the sealing point seems to be along the top and down the right side, sort of forming an L-shape. and in comparison to MWFTE where the sealing point is soft, the sealing point is 'crispier'/harder in texture with TTM.

4) http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/2...01204at112.png

there seems to be damage there, like someone made a long indented mark. standalone, i would say it's just the luck of the draw wear and tear, but because of the lack of the blue sticker on the plastic wrap and my unfamiliarity with early Criterion BD shrinkwrapping, i was wary about that being a sign of something worse.

as far as you can tell would you say this wasn't a resealed item passed off as new?

again, as someone with undiagnosed OCD, i appreciate your prompt responses.

i get more entertainment from this thread than those damn long, drawn out Criterion films that this thread is centered around!

But anyways, I feel Malick is a waste of time when looking for substance. Can you please enlighten me on the path to substance though? If you could give examples, I could prob change my ways. That would be greeeaaattt. I always felt Godard had no substance in his films anyways. I much prefer those great all-star cast Malick features. The way he shows us trees, two words............boner alert.

Paul Morrissey's films has more substance in Joe Dallensandro's **** than Thin Red Line has in it's whole film.
"Hating an opinion" =/= explaining why I like something. Did I ever insult anyone for not liking Malick? Nope. I explained why I liked it, and hopefully that provided some insight into why I think Malick is valuable, and best case scenario, someone may or may not feel like reconsidering The Thin Red Line. If they reconsider it and still think it sucks, so be it, I'm glad someone is making their own decisions. I could just make some silly immature comment about how people that don't Malick "just don't get it", but I chose to attempt to incite some type of constructive discussion, instead of mocking the people that don't like it.

You're obviously getting somewhat hostile over my comments on Godard. I could just say you "hate opinions". You could explain why you enjoy his work, and we could discuss it (as this board is meant for) or you could make some predictable sarcastic comments, which you chose to do (again).

"substance" and "meaning" is obviously different for everyone, and I came into film hating arbiters of taste. I am not trying to belittle anyone for liking Godard or not liking Malick. I like Pierrot Le Fou and I love a Woman is a Woman. I hate Badlands. I think Godard comes off as too pseudo-intellectual, and I feel as if he is an arrogant loudmouth and uses his films to rant. Resnais, Truffaut, and Rohmer make films that resonate with me so much more, which is the short version of why I don't enjoy most of his work. Do I think Godard fans are pseudo intelligent or would I make a post saying "LolOl y'all seen breathless its sooo deep!!!!" Mocking them? No.

tl:dr stop posting things that will obviously provoke others and then come back to belittle them for defending their opinions. Immature and annoying. If you actually wanted to clean up the forums you wouldn't post tripe like that in the first place.

Not really blu-ray related, but I finally found a copy of Rebecca on Criterion which is something I never bought when it was in print even though I was buying and collecting Criterion movies at the time. I never buy my movies online, so it's always a thrill when I find one of the 20 or so Criterion DVD's or LD's that I am missing from my collection. Also picked up the Janus Essential Arthouse box set for a pretty good price. I already have a lot of the movies, but I really wanted the book that comes with it.

I also saw the Allan King set which I almost bought and was wondering if anyone on this thread has seen any of his works and if it's worth picking up. Come On Children looked really interesting, and Warrendale...but the others I wasn't thrilled about seeing.

What is everyone's FAV Films? Top 10, Top 20, Top 50, whatever. (I know I don't believe in lists, but what the heck. Mine isn't a list anyways)

Here is mine (just stuff I am feeling at the moment. Changes all the time. And I still have so much to add, just stopped at 22.), and hopefully show I'm not a Godard-only person (only 2, non-Criterion films):

My mom loved Step Brothers, keeps tying to get me to watch it. Not a big Will Ferrell fan though, just imo. I'll make a list tomorrow then to be comprehensive. Later today or so. Man I'm tired.

right on
as you can probably tell, i'm a big Paul Thomas Anderson and Aronofsky fan. those two are my favorite directors, by far. and i wish Criterion would be able to get some of their films on blu to release, but as i slowly but surely learn what goes into Criterion getting a films rights i don't believe these two would ever give up their films (especially not PTA i believe) for Criterion to work with, sadly i would LOVE seeing some great special features on their films, especially a commentary with DDL on TWBB

Without sounding snobby, if you watch Will's films like they have substance and a message, they are better. Like watch Anchorman thinking he is showing how men exploit masculinity and sexism. Step Brothers is just f'n funny. No message to that. Can quote that movie all day.
