TDB was incorrect about Lost Highway being a September title, but I’m more inclined to believe this one because, we’ll, it IS a horror classic. Putting it out in October makes sense.

(Now if only we could get UHDs of Dawn/Day in the states)

To be fair, he only states that he's heard they're working on it, so he is just speculating on the October release. Since it is a horror title, that does logically make sense.

And we go from something clearly written as a rumor to NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT ... At least he started citing his sources ever since I called him out for it.

I think Peeping Tom is a decent bet for October. StudioCanal have done a new 4K restoration and apparently European releases are coming later in the year.

Second sight has been looking for film elements from what’s been heard from sources.

Digital Bits: "Rumor Mill-worthy"

Dawn Of The Discs: "NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT: Coming Soon to 4K UHD from Criterion"

It's almost as if DOTD doesn't know what the words mean.

I've always wondered how such things go missing. Movie studios are comically inept at maintaining what one would think to be very important assets. They spend millions on production but seemingly can't be bothered to keep track of where the negatives are or spending money maintaining their condition. Thus we see millions of dollars in movies rotting in non-climate-controlled woodsheds. The recording labels are the same way. The masters go missing, never to be seen again. Sometimes they're found in mislabeled canisters because some moron apparently couldn't be bothered to change the old label or use a new canister + label.

And then someone makes a thread for it here like it's official, and on it goes.. It's like the online equivalent of the game telephone where the message just keeps getting further away from the source.

Do yourself a favor, if you haven't, get the UHD of Dawn of the Dead from Second Sight. There will not be a better release for this, even if US rights are obtained.

I don't follow these liars, so are DOTD and TDF the same person?

No, both are different people. TDF is just a unhinged "insider" who makes a lot of announcements that end up not even being true.

I've only watched Red Sorghum, Ju Dou and Raise the Red Lantern but I'm really wondering why none of these have made it into the collection yet.. And why there seems to be a shocking dearth of Chinese films in their catalog.

All I know is that Red Sorghum did get a release by World Cinema Library, a company that I don't know much about besides the fact that their editions are highly sought after and are VERY limited.

Right. If my memory serves this was heavily rumored and speculated for October of 2017 for the original Criterion Blu-Ray release, and didn't end up coming out until February of 2018.

Day of the Dead was produced by Laurel Entertainment, an indie studio started by Richard Rubinstein and George Romero, and it was received poorly at the cinemas. It's not like a major studio product where the studio itself owns huge climate controlled vaults and can they just bung in the reels. If they wanted to store the reels, they'd probably have had to rent storage space, and for something wasn't a hit at the cinemas, it may not have been the first priority.

With TCM running Howard Hawks' The Big Sky (1952, Kirk Douglas) today, which they seem to do about once a year, I thought I would bring it up again. If ever there was a film that deserved the Criterion treatment, this film is it. Given that there are only various releases of the film available via some pretty weak international DVD versions, will we ever see this film get the attention it deserves. Even with the TCM version, which seems to be the best one around, the film is sorely in need of restoration. One can only hope...

Good point. What if it gets announced IN October, not FOR October?
That might have also been what TDB meant when Lost Highway was rumored for September.
