Hm....I'm pretty sure on more than one occasion I was able to do returns to Amazon without much trouble even before 2015.

As for customer gradings, does this take into account your Amazon activity across multiple country sites, or are Amazon US and Amazon UK treated as entirely separate operations in this context? So does a single profitability "score" factor in my purchase history on the US, UK, and France sites put together? Or probably not?

Because a disproportionately large percentage of my returns have been on the US site.

Off the recent topics, but I am still hoping that we get a surprise announcement-outside-of-the-regular-announcements, soon. Similar to the 2018 and 2020 announcements where the Bergman and Fellini sets were announced between the Oct and Nov announcements (between July and August).

Sure hope we get some kind of a treat this November.

Outside of the World Cinema Project Vol. 4 (coming in September), we haven't had a Criterion boxed set since Melvin Van Peebles last September. And that and the delayed Wong Kar Wai set from March 2021 (delayed from the previous Fall of 2020) are the only box sets we've had since 2020. We had a slew of them in 2020 (Bruce Lee, Agnes Varda, Fellini, WCP Vol. 3). I hope we get a big filmmaker box this year.

I've been hoping for some Pasolini physical media before year's end, as it is his Centennial year. (I know they had a program of titles on Criterion streaming earlier this year).

Hoping for that mythic Kurosawa box that everyone was hoping for (if it even exists). Been secretly hoping for Scorsese and Pasolini boxes (though both are unlikely).

I understand your point and wholeheartedly hope the same, but have to point out that this 6-film box set came out November 2021.

The list for UHD upgrades and unreleased titles would be still be long and I'm sure some are coming, but what I would love to see most right now are current CC titles that haven't even been upgraded to blu-ray yet, for example:

The Thief of Bagdad (1940)
Element of Crime (1984)
Europa (1991)
Pitfall (1962)
The Face of Another (1966)

I think Scorsese is very unlikely because it doesn't feel like there's much reason to box them together - there's no special anniversary and each individual release is probably going to be one of Criterion's best sellers. It's not like, say, Fellini, where 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita likely outsell the rest of his films 5-to-1.

I think there's a good chance of Pasolini though - we know for definite that they have the rights to almost all of his feature films, all of them have been restored, and Salo has a more recent restoration than the one Criterion released. Though as the months tick by I'm starting to lose confidence

Is there any UK label that could conceivably beat Criterion to it in getting 8 1/2 on UHD. Most of Fellini's films seem to be with Cult Films in the UK, and while they could potentially do 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita UHDs they don't have the best track record. However, I haven't seen much word of mouth regarding their Suspiria release, negative or positive. I don't want to have to be over-reliant on Criterion for a lot of my favorites on UHD, given both import costs and the seemingly unresolvable scratch issue.

Even if Criterion do UHDs of Barry Lyndon and Eyes Wide Shut, they'd probably still get WB releases in Europe like Citizen Kane.

Probably not. As you say, it's with Cult Films and if their licence expires then I'd imagine Criterion will pick it up for the UK themselves.

Has anyone here had any playback issues with The Girl Can't Help It? My copy locks up and freezes 36 minutes into the during the Cry Me a River scene, and it happened on multiple players but at different spots in the same scene. The rest of the movie played fine, and the disc doesn't have any scratches on it.

Director Bob Rafelson has just died. Legendary 1970s director of Five Easy Pieces, Head, The King of Marvin Gardens, The Postman Always Rings Twice, early collaborator with Jack Nicholson. Producer of Easy Rider, The Last Picture Show. Huge loss.

Immortalized by Criterion in this great set:

Rough past few months with the losses of Rafelson, Ray Liotta, James Caan, William Hurt, Fred Ward, LQ Jones. 70/80s legends are going quickly now.

Re this year's big announcement:

Criterion find a way to issue blu rays and UHDs without bloody great scratches/fingermarks over their discs. Got Raging Bull and Okja UHD, and like Shaft, Hard Days Night etc, looks like someone dragged nails over the disc or eaten their lunch of it. Waiting for response from Jon Mulvaney who normally wants photos - some chance of capturing fine scratches!

I think those scratches are signatures or initials, sorta like on LPs.

I think the time is finally right for a Tyler Perry box set.
