It's early, but whatever, here are my (overly unrealistic) November predictions/wishes:

Three Colors Trilogy 4K
Casablanca 4k
Heroic Trio / The Executioners
Petite Maman
Roma 4K

Where are Eric Rohmer's Tales of the Four Seasons?

These had their theatrical run from Janus Films a year ago and they are still missing in action.

I'm still waiting on this upgrade:

Hurry up already!! It's only been about 20+ years since it's DVD release.

For those not wanting to play the guessing game it's the way overdue

Pretty sure it's with Fox in the US, so Disney.... um....

Yes it's with Fox (so yeah it's with Disney now), but it's still kind of surprising that another boutique label never picked up Shock Treatment over here. Arrow put out their blu-ray a couple years before the Disney takeover.

I do not understand the rationale for 86ing the entirety of the Fox catalog. Disney isn't streaming the films, they aren't licensing them to boutique labels like Criterion, they seem to have dumped every Fox film into an oubliette to be forgotten. Where's the profit in that?

The MBAs who run the studios these days see movies as just units of product, and not as art that should be preserved. What's their next act, buying the Louvre and using the paintings as kindling to offset their heating costs?

They bought the Fox vault not to profit from the wealth of riches but to mine it for new content, like Prey.

They are interested in bulking up their streaming option as the future of entertainment by using a wealth of recognizable IPs as bedrock to ensure longevity. They literally do not care about the actual library itself. If they did, it wouldn't be comically easy to find copies of things like John Ford's Doctor Bull on Youtube. They'd open their vaults to boutique home video labels to take what they want as long as the Mouse got its vig. They don't do this because their interest is in streaming, not physical media. They will rule the streaming space.

Nah. More like buying the Louvre and locking up all the paintings in a bank vault. Occasionally they'll release high quality posters of The Raft of the Medusa or Liberty Leasing the People to save face.

Still pretty depressing though.

If so, then why not bulk up Disney+ as a true rival to HBOMax with the Fox library? Prey was pretty good, but still . . .

Probably two main reasons.

The first is that the Fox library doesn't fit with the brands they're trying to cultivate. Drums Along the Mohawk wouldn't fit very well on Disney+.

The other is that they probably think (rightly, I would assume) that it's new content that attracts new customers and keeps old customers. A deep library probably doesn't get nearly as much time by users at the latest Today's Thing, so it's not worth spending the money to clean up old stuff.

As cool as that would be, I doubt Criterion would release it. More likely that VS has the rights to it.

It appears WB will release Casablanca on UHD.

Maybe Criterion can snag North by Northwest?

Would love to see it, but I feel like WB would be more likely to give up Strangers on a Train. And it would be nice if Criterion would do something with that dusty copy of Spellbound they've been sitting on.
