It's really, really bad.

I would've loved to see CC go in the style of the WB snapcase dvd but maybe they thought it was too similar to Citizen Kane's artwork.

I think that was Nova Media that said that not Criterion.

I asked them when I applied for BD replacements a couple of months ago and was told that I didn’t have to worry about UHD upgrades because this set, which I already bought, was as good as it was going to get.

I'm not sure about this. In the Mood For Love has already been released on (non-English friendly)UHD in multiple European territories, so Criterion perhaps felt they had their hands tied, as in "This film is widely available on UHD? Well then there may as well be an English-friendly option too". That they haven't yet done Breathless or The Seventh Seal on UHD yet is telling here in my opinion.

This is kind of the issue I'm having too. We're at the point where, unless it cannot be put on the UHD format, there should be simultaneous releases now. I have reached the point where I do not purchase DVDs, and even Blu-ray I've slowed or waited until they are bargain bin (Severin, VS and other boutiques I still do).

I have upgraded from Beta/VHS to DVD to Blu now to 4K. I'm done and not doing this again. But then, will a 4K come out if the Blu doesn't sell? I don't know, but at this point, these companies (boutiques especially) need to be upfront with their releases. We're now at the point where blus from a year ago then get a 4K release, and it's stopping me from buying the blus currently. I essentially only buy blus for stuff that I'm pretty damn sure will never see the 4k format.

Well clearly whoever responded to you might be wrong lol. We’ll see in a few months what upgrade this is when reviews chime in. Also this looks like it could be SDR or just HDR10. No information on Dolby Vision. I doubt the HDR10 will change the color grade, which is why I will keep my original Bluray for that color timing. I expect the 4K resolution to help with compression, shadow detail, and detail overall in general.

Well, December is usually pretty slight for CC, so I guess...

"After Hours", "Inland Empire", etc. for 2023.....

Aww, and I'd hoped that there would be at least ONE Pasolini release for his 100th....

Guess not.

The noise reduction on some of the WKW films is more off putting to me then the color timing. I'll take a wait and see approach. Will also hold off on the Infernal Affairs set because my luck a UHD set will pop up within a year. Don't care to own Power of the Dog. Daisies is a maybe right now.

Malcolm X looks to be the only disc I'm getting.

A bit disappointed. This may be blasphemy, but I'll take more films that have never been on blu-ray over UHD upgrades any day. Especially when Malcolm X and ITMFL already have pretty good releases, from my understanding.

INFERNAL AFFAIRS should be on 4K Discs. Skipping ITMFL 4K unless it has both versions, which of course is highly unlikely -- and yeah, it's pretty astounding that Criterion pulls this after all indications were that the WKW Blu set would be the final word. But I didn't buy that one, either! Or...they are running out of their WKW license and simply want to gain a few more sales. MALCOLM X 4K is nice to see, but yeah, the cover art is boring, and I have the wonderful Warner Blu-book. DAISIES will def. get a purchase from me, though. The other one...well, I've seen it, don't need to see it ever again!

Artwork is still better than what WB has put out for their catalog titles.

4 of the 7 films coming out in November have never had BD releases in the US. The first Infernal Affairs BD was mediocre at best as well.

I don’t remember ITMFL having any noise reduction. Just the color timing looked like poopoo green.

Malcolm X on 4K UHD is a pleasant and most welcome surprise! ITMFL is a confirmed triple-dip, Daisies is great and I guess I don’t mind lack of UHD too much, Power of the Dog on 4K UHD is super too.

But why in the f**ing f**k would they not let the Infernal Affairs films not have a 4K UHD release, once the f**k again, with them having new 4K masters for all three films in their very hands! This level of outright retard-ness in strategy is beyond me, no way they can argue that there wouldn’t be a market for 4K UHD releases of these films. Absolutely unacceptable.

Well I don't physically own ItMFL at all, so as long as the release isn't atrocious I may pick it up at price drop time. I'll see. However, considering it's unlikely to be a reference disc I'll probably make do with a digital 4K version from Apple TV should it become available. Yes, I'm aware discussion of digital 4K versions may be blasphemy 'round these parts, but I'm not very amenable to the idea of cluttering up my life with 4k hard copies that aren't reference quality, unless perhaps it's a desert island film like Le Cercle Rouge.

Everyone should go complain like they did with Uncut Gems and they might just change their minds

Are you 5 years old? I'm also disappointed by the lack of UHD for the trilogy but I'm not going to throw a massive hissy-fit like this.

Happy to get in the mood for love 4K though I have a feeling my WKW set will be nothing but a paperweight in a few years. A sacrifice Im willing to make.
