Criterion will invent time travel and will announce the titles yesterday, but we won't know it until after tomorrow's delayed announcement.

Something is telling me we'll get them Monday.....

Though I'd LOVE to be completely wrong.

(Cue the scolding one that comes in and lectures us about fretting over the announcements being late, LOL...)

These days, "PIXAR" is just another way of saying "Disney." If Criterion is releasing a PIXAR film, I'd say anything goes from the larger Disney catalog.

My sense is both Godard's standing and the awareness of his work has been diminished not only for the reasons you cite but also because cinema in general has faded as an important and vital art form, a movement which he launched with the release of Breathless. I introduced Godard to my then high school aged children with his debut, and both revisited the film in college for their respective film study coursework. In fact, my son, a junior, has a French cinema class this semester and we were chatting about how his professor would address Godard's legacy.

That said, for them and the overwhelming majority, myself included, it is not because of experiencing the film as it was first released, but rather making the connection with its revolutionary and monumental influence.

True, but let's face it, it's hard to compete with the new, regardless of the actual film.

Respected? Yes. Beloved? Far from it.

Regardless, cinema is what it is because of Godard.

Yeah the ONLY one I'm aware of is someone said somewhere that "Cooley High" was coming in December. (I already have the Olive blu ray of that).

I DO hope we get something interesting, though December is usually pretty sparse.

Be nice if we could close out the year with a Pasolini, just in time to make his 100th Year; or, close out with the much-anticipated, "After Hours". (I don't actually expect either...)

My (way too ambitious) December predictions:

The Devil and Daniel Webster (aka All That Money Can Buy)
Cooley High
Blast of Silence
Heroic Trio / The Executioners
The Velvet Underground
Eyes Wide Shut 4K

Decembers are usually thin for Criterion announcements, so I'm not expecting too much. Following the big news of WALL-E last week I wouldn't be surprised if we get only two new titles and an upgrade.

My realistic expectations:

Two minor artsy films
One good movie

December seems to be a weak month for Criterion, but I hope I’m proven wrong.

But they sometimes drop a big, fancy box set. Every announcement I quickly see if a Kurosawa box set is in it only to have my hopes and dreams dashed upon the rocks of my discontent.

you know that rights are not forever right? they are usually bought for x amount of years, so maybe they are ending soon, so they need to prolongate them so that product stay in print longer.
