"Oh no, there goes Tokyo..." Gotta love it when I come here to see what others bought in the 24hr Criterion sale and see a little conversation about Blue Öyster Cult. All I'll add is their last album, The Symbol Remains, kicked some mighty butt.

I didn't get anything during the sale but will be ready for November and the B&N sale.

It did! But that was my most anticipated record of 2020, so I was in the bag already. I had it on repeat all day when it first hit That reminds me, I still need to dig into all the BÖC Popoff books on my shelf.

Re: Criterion. Man, it will be a nice day when we can can all enjoy Reaper on that much hyped CC Halloween mono track (with 4k visuals, naturally). Given the issues with both the Scream and Lionsgate 4ks, I'm sure fans will gladly open up their wallets for it.

I watch Sea of Tranquility and The Contrarians on YouTube and when Martin announced he was doing an Imaginos book to Pete Pardo I was so excited. Then when it came out and I saw the price and realized I couldn't afford it...

I felt compelled to support Martin directly, so I got the visual biography direct from him signed and it was pricey. The earlier books I bought used on Alibris for around $10. By the time the Imaginos book came out I didn't even consider it as my wife was gearing up to start grad school.

While we are on the topic of music, I've got to say the choices Criterion gravitates to are kind of safe and boring, rarely venturing outside of the 60s. At the very least I thought we'd have a Spinal Tap upgrade by now.

Do Amazon price-match the annual B&N sale or is that wishful thinking on my part?

usually.. kinda. If you want a specific movie they probably won't but if you just have a wishlist you'll probably be able to knock some of it off with A*****

I'd certainly be interested in picking up Blow Out at some point down the road, but I reckon that has a good chance of getting a FiM-encoded UHD from Carlotta at some point down the road. A fair number of the WCP titles have gotten FiM-encoded standalone releases here in France, as well.

In either case, not to be that guy, but between the scratch issues at the Mexican plant and the hideous import fees I'm kind of over buying North American Criterion discs. However, I'll happily pick up a UK release of a wishlist title if its blu-ray-only on both sides of the Atlantic.

My first order has already shipped! With the collapse of the BN coupon benefit, I save my pennies for these two flash sales and their loyalty benefit. This is always the big one, tho, and I bought deep. It's looking like a good weekend coming!

Agreed, and they performed two songs from the album at the 50th Anniversary show I attended (the last of three nights at Sony Hall), Tainted Blood and Train True (they performed different selections for the first two nights).

Speaking of Imaginos, Albert Bouchard reunited with band for all three nights (that's Albert on the far right live in Hell's Kitchen) to perform the first set (each night dedicated the first set to one of the first three albums) and selected songs for the second set.

I'm going to see Al with the reformed Dictators in a few weeks as he is now playing drums with the band. Criterion? BOC? The Dictators? That's New York City, and I've always believed BOC is one of the most lyrically cinematic bands in rock n' roll.

Got in a last-minute order of Arsenic and Old Lace, Le cercle rouge 4K, Blow Out 4K, and A Hard Day’s Night 4K.

The only movie on this list I’ve seen is Blow Out. I think this shipment will be a real treat!

Got my order in just before the deadline.

Kept it to the minimum to meet the new threshold for free shipping, as I've got a bunch of pre-orders in elsewhere:

This discussion of Blue Oyster Cult makes me wish that this Criterion-worthy film would get an upgrade

The Reaper is an integral thread connecting the various dramatic plot lines in this complex web of neo-noir mystery.
[Show spoiler]Hey, I’m trying my best to make it sound Criterion-worthy. It’s actually funny as hell and the band has a great cameo.

Love this flick. Watched my DVD of it not long back and it needs a better release. All I could think when looking at the DVD quality was

I usually get some cash for Christmas so this year I'll use it on the Imaginos book. And I do shop on Alibris, Abe Books & Thrift Books so I need to remember to look for Popoff's books on these sites.

I do like that they have the Monterey Pop Festival, anything with Jimi Hendrix is worth it, and A Hard Days Night. My music love is basically from the 60's and 70's, but I can go back to the Scarlatti's with my music taste. Recently I bought the complete Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Armstrong CDs and wondered where that had been all my life. So, yes, I agree with you. Some Jazz, Classical, post 1960's bands music films would be nice. Oh, and I recently purchased the Rare Bird box set and forgot that their keyboard player was hired to be the Spinal Tap one.

Wow, you are lucky. I'm glad Albert shows up at times but Joe seems to have no want of doing that. Train True was a song some complained about when the album came out but I thought it was a fun song. Kind of a rockabilly pastiche.

And I've also always loved their lyrics. The only other artist whose lyrics I love just as much is Peter Hammill.

Yes! Criterion needs this. Lasers and familiar looking
[Show spoiler]ticket scalpers.
It would go well with Dazed and Confused and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

My flash sale order using a $10 & $50 code:

(4) 4k's:

1 Box set:

$116.95 total. I was planning on spending more but with Kino, Shout & Amazon all hitting in succession I backed off. I always try to get a box set during these sales, haven't made it through my Bergman box from last sale so blind bought something smaller.

I recently finished watching all of the films and supplements in Vol.1. I have around three hundred Criterions and have to say this was one of the most exciting for me. Can't wait to work through the other three
