So....can another label get the rights to the Kurosawa library? Criterion obviously isn't doing anything with them.

I wonder if a Barry Lyndon UHD will end up coming directly from WB before we get a Criterion upgrade. I could imagine Warner wanting to complete their Kubrick holdings on the newest format, albeit slowly but surely. I could envision Lolita being boxset only on UHD from them, as well.

Also, I have a feeling Criterion aren't going to bother with the "legacy" foreign titles like 8 1/2, Breathless, The 400 Blows, L'Avventura and so forth on UHD unless the available elements support a guaranteed reference-quality release. I could be wrong though. Why else would they not have upgraded any of the mid-century flagship foreign titles yet? Of course, The Seventh Seal already has an affordable reference disc from BFI. I know we're getting a non-reference In The Mood For Love UHD from Criterion, but Wong Kar Wai tends to be an easier sell among more casual film fans, so perhaps it still makes economic sense from their standpoint.

Realistically I do wish Criterion would let go of some of their Japanese titles. I think we'll see Kurosawa eventually, but we are going into seven years without a title from him. That's a long time. I really do want to see some of their Hideo Gosha titles get released, and if they don't have any plans, I could easily see other labels going for them.

If Criterion released 1 Japanese title a month it would take over a decade to get them all out. However, we only get get 2-4 titles a year if we are lucky, so at this rate it will be a lifetime or more to see any of these films get a release.

I mean, it does make it feel like the long rumored box set is coming, but if not, to not have a single title since Dreams is absolutely insane.

Well ain’t that some sh*t! I literally ordered Bergman Island 3 days ago and it shipped yesterday. I thought I had waited long enough and that no one was gonna release it. Well, Criterion you got me!

Also gonna get This is Not a Burial, it’s a Resurrection, Europa Trilogy and I guess a second copy of Bergman Island!

Yeah, I'm actually pretty shocked that we haven't gotten one of his film on Blu-ray since then. It's been a really long time and for one of the worlds greatest if not greatest director seems a bit bizarre from a company that used to release his films every few months or so during their early DVD days. The Bad Sleep Well, Stray Dog, Red Beard, and many others. Again, it feels like a boxset is coming, but we have been saying that for YEARS at this point. I really wish we had a Criterion insider like we have a Kino one, just so we could have an understanding of some of their decisions.

I wonder how Imitation of life will fair againt Universal's release from several years ago. Was reported to be from a 4K master but either the compression was iffy or it was a. It degrained. Was never satisfied with the overall look.

Man... I waited forever for Munchausen expecting a Criterion release, only to give up earlier this year and bought the main release.

I'm very interested in the Europe trilogy. That one will be higher on my list to purchase.

The Europa Trilogy for me is huge, some of my most wanted upgrades from Criterion.

Munchausen, it's no Brazil 4K but I'll take it.

Not familiar with the rest of the titles, have to check them out.

Oh, it was from a 4K too? I was trying to find info on that.

Criterion have a few screencaps on their site.

This is me most of the time when it comes to Criterion...until today! I've been needing an upgrade of Element of Crime for the longest time. Would've preferred a 4K release but I'll take a Blu-ray. Europa is icing on the cake. This is one of those "I can die happy now" types of releases for me
