Also, I'm just tired of people complaining about "such and such well known American or western director (like Martin Scorsese, who literally got two releases last year, or Roman Polanski) is not being released or released enough through Criterion."

And it only gets worse when I hear people complain about Criterion "going woke" or "releasing films no one cares about (?) or knows (that's a good thing)," especially if they release films by lesser known non-white film makers (I for one was very happy when they released a few "films no one knows," Celine and Julie Go Boating (1974), Devi (1960) and After Life (1998).

Sure, there are American and European films I want Criterion to release, be they harder to see European films like the whole filmography of Theo Angelopoulos or most Andrzej Żuławski films or American films like The Heartbreak Kid (1972), Greed (1924), The Crowd (1928), The Wind (1928), I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932) and Paper Moon (1973).

But I really do want to see more films from Latin America, Africa, the Arab world, and literally the rest of Asia outside of Japan because of how so many of these films are hard to see in general.

Like the Keeper of Promises/The Given Word (1962), one of the most acclaimed Brazilian films of all time and the only Brazilian film to win the Palm D'Or, it's quite rare and hard to see. The same goes for another Brazilian film, Black God, White Devil (1964).

I've already talked about all the Indian cinema I'd love to see them release and it appears they're already heading in that direction and they are working towards more films from Africa like those of Ousmane Sembène as I think they have the rights to most of his films as well The Night of Counting the Years (1969), a masterpiece from Egypt and Chronicle of the Years of Fire (1975) from Algeria, the only African and Arab language film to win the Palm D'Or as both films have been restored by the world cinema project. And I really like what the latest World Cinema Project box set has to offer, I just wish they'd release the rest of the films in the set on the channel already.

And there's still plenty of great Japanese cinema I want them to release, especially the movies of Shūji Terayama. But at least most of the ones I want them to release, like the aforementioned Mikio Naruse films and Humanity and Paper Balloons (1937), I can stream on the channel.
Oh my, it wasn't all that.

I wasn't even complaining. I was simply surprised because Cronenberg and Criterion seem to have a very nice, long standing relationship. I thought they might want to release his latest film, just as they did for Scorsese or Bong Joon-Ho or Noah Baumbach or several others. For the record, I don't consider "Crimes of the Future" purely genre cinema, by the way. I do consider it an acclaimed art house film. Maybe they still will, down the road. Perhaps Neon wants to handle it themselves for a while, first.

Anyway, there are many, many films that all of us want released. We'll get some, we won't get some.

As for many of the films you seek (and I do, as well), Martin Scorsese's World Cinema Project/ The Film Foundation have been critical in recent years in bringing many films to Criterion (and the west, in general) that, I suspect, many people may never have heard of, much less seen, otherwise. It's been fantastic. Going through the WCP box sets, I haven't disliked a single thing in any of them.

Speaking of Terayama, I just saw "Pastoral", recently. It is great.

Sorry if I used you as an example, I've been following the forums and comments section on this site for a while before I joined and I just kept seeing all these different users in general complain whenever Criterion announced their new releases and that's long annoyed me.

I saw 270 movies in theaters in 2022 and Petite Maman is my #3! Beautiful little movie, definitely picking it up from Criterion. Maybe they'll release Sciamma's Water Lillies eventually too.

Oh, God, please: "The Wind" and "The Crowd" some time before I die...

The Crowd and The Wind have been on my wishlist since the mid-2000s - longer than any other films. I've since watched both on VHS, but I'll still throw a party the day I can finally own them on disc.

Put them together in a "Silent Masterpieces from MGM" box set with Greed, and Criterion (or Warner) would have a guaranteed vote for "Release of the Year" from me.

I really hope a proper 4K transfer of "Apollo 11" is in the pipeline; and with all the extras and alternate cut of the movie for a true deluxe special edition from NEON / Criterion

I hope Werckmeister Harmonies, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, or The M*ther and the Wh*re (or a Jean Eustache set), gets announced this week.

I would be absolutely elated if all of them got announced!

The Mother and the Wh*re is such an acclaimed rarity, I know for sure that Janus films has miraculously acquired the rights to it and restored it as they recently did screenings of the restoration last year, as well as Eustache's follow up to it (his estate was notorious for never wanting to put out his stuff, The Mother in particular, which much like The Crowd and Greed, has never seen even a DVD release in America, only a VHS release, anywhere in the world I think).

But I have a feeling it might not be announced until at least next month when they do the May releases so that their release coincides with the 50th Anniversary of it's premiere at Cannes in 1973.

I never said they were likely to announce it. I was just stating that I hoped that they announced one of them this week.

The 4K restoration of Early Summer is on blu-ray in France?

That would be very, very cool if they announced that. I would probably not pay attention for a year if they announced "Pat Garrett" and a Jean Eustache set in the same month.

Yes, the Jean Eustache films and the Pasolini films are among some of my most anticipated films that Janus has.

I hope we get an "EO" announcement, soon, as well.

They can release that Antoine Doinel/Truffaut set any time they like.

Oh, and.... "After Hours".

Here's a good site for you all to find movies for Criterion to release: https://rarefilmm.com/

And a good list of the movies on that site on Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/rhettman417/l...com/year/1966/

I personally think any movie on rarefilmm.com with a 3.7 average rating or higher on Letterboxd is worthy of a Criterion release.

Since I've seen Greed mentioned a couple of times over the past few days, I'll go one step further and say let's also see The Wedding March at the same time. Let's finally see these two Stroheim classics - which never even had DVD releases - finally be given their due.
