Is there any hope for these films by Ishiro Honda: Rodan, The Mysterians, Varan the Unbelievable (both cuts), Gorath, Matango, Artagon, Dogora, Frankenstein vs. Baragon, War of the Gargantuas, Space Amoeba? I see most listed on the criterion channel, do you see them releasing them physically?

Now with TOHO releasing UHD of IKIRU and STRAY DOG themselves, is it possible that Criterion may finally get a chance to license these TOHO 4K masters and release UHD?

I would say there is a good chance. Probably will be all old masters, but it's better than not getting these films in HD. I could see an October boxset, but who knows when.

Was on the fence for Triangle of Sadness so decided to watch it last night instead of doing a blind buy. I thought it was OK. Great cast and loved that Zlatko Burić from the Pusher trilogy was in this. I enjoyed the first half more than the second half, but felt that the second half was simply a bit too out there for me. I don't regret watching the film, but glad I watched it before I bought it, as it would have been a one and done.

The last part of the film means it would sit well on the shelf next to

Stray Dogs finally getting a US HD release would be epic news. Every single time I see MifuneFan's avatar it bugs me that the film is missing a release over here. Maybe soon...maybe.

Hoping Criterion will release Stray Dog in 4K. In my top 10 of all time and this is one of the few favorites that I have yet to own a release of. Wonder how this will look in motion (I'm a bit skeptical with Japanese 4K restorations). I highly recommend those who haven't seen it to check it out. The Criterion commentary is also pretty good, taking a very historical approach to this to allow listeners to understand more about Japan's post-war state (Which makes this film arguably the greatest film to show post-war Japan IMO).

I hope Criterion doesn’t shy away from releasing more shows. Specifically, I would love them to release Olivier Assayas’ miniseries, Irma Vep!

Rodan and Gargantuas are part of the same package the first Godzilla film came from, so I suppose Criterion is a possibility.

Gorath - I don't know who has the US rights to that, they may be in limbo.

Same goes for the US version of Varan, that used to be part of the Crown International library, but Toho likely won't authorise a release of that as they can be rather funny over allowing the US versions of their films to be released if the paperwork isn't 100%. But you ever know...

The other titles were all on DVD from Media Blasters so are likely avaiable for companies to license for Blu-ray, both in the US and maybe even the UK. So, assuming they have the money, maybe Eureka could release them in the UK and Vinegar Sydrome in the US, just to use two random examples.

Where did you hear that out of interest? They desperately need a remaster on BD or 4K.

Speaking of the February flash sale...

Are we thinking it'll be February 28?

I would assume the three possibilities are February 21st, 28th, and March 7th. I'm leaning towards the 28th, but last year it was the first week of March
