I won't go into any detail about the episode, in case you want to be surprised.

The film All About Lily Chou Chou has a wonderful line about life and death in nature. I cant find it online, and if I had more time I would pop in my copy and find it for you. Maybe after work

I am studying philosophy and film at my school (maybe one of the least lucrative combinations ever), which might also partly explain my affection for his body of work.

I got a little irritated with the same "Loving Strangers" song being played over and over, however. I've only watched it once so maybe I need to see it again.

That's true. I assumed it meant a U.S. company at least had the rights to release it, but it's possible that it could only get a DVD release.

Regarding your second point, yeah you never know. With Criterion's deal with IFC, any of those films seem possible. Medem's work is well-suited for Criterion imo.

No love for Videodrome or Cronos so far?

I watched Videodrome last night, and loved the transfer. Such a good movie. I'll be watching the special features later.

Watched Inception tonight. Reminded me how much I'd like Criterion to get Wim Wenders' Until The End Of The World.
I watched both Videodrome and Inception last night. I'm looking forward to Cronos because I heard the extras was worth it alone, so I'm excited about it.

And Criterion does love Wim, so it's possible.

I watched Sawdust and Tinsel tonight and enjoyed it very much. I think the more Bergman films I watch, the more I'm learning to appreciate his style and understand his films.

I watched the first 30 mins. or so again with the commentary, which was also quite enlightening...wish I wasn't so tired, otherwise, I might have watched/listened to all of it...did get quite enough out of it.

What a shame...after seeing the 2003 introduction of the film by Bergman, it was compared to vomit, by a Swedish critic, when it was first released.

I'll probably stream Cronos tomorrow night and then get Cries and Whispers as a rental for Saturday.

I do expect Criterion and Del Toro to hook up again, however. Hopefully it'll be before Del Toro's last film, as he sort of alludes to in one of the interviews. Looking forward to listening to his feature commentary once I actually buy the disc.

Looking very forward to Videodrome, but likely won't buy it for some time as I need to save money for a few months.
I really enjoyed The American Friend and the fact that both Dennis Hopper and Nicholas Ray appear in the film, would certainly help its chances.

lol

Finally got to dive into my BBS set last night as my first shipment from Family Video came looking like it had been run over by not only one truck, but two. The second shipment was a little better, but I decided it wasn't worth the extra wait for a third one.

I started with Head and, despite not really knowing too much about the Monkees as I was with other bands of that time period, I rather enjoyed the psychadelic ride quite a bit.

I'm looking forward to the rest of this set. Nicholson is one of my favorite actors, and I have never seen a movie directed by him.

How is everyone else's viewing experience with the BBS box set going?

Very well goombah...welcome back!

I've already devoured the Head disc and have watched Easy Rider (so far, I'm watching them in order...that might change) and have all but finished the supplements on that disc.

Due to the fact that I have SO MANY new BDs to watch AND I want to enjoy the set slowly...I'm taking it slow!

It's either going to be the next in line, which is Five Easy Pieces or I might jump to The Last Picture Show...haven't decided yet.

Enjoy the set italy...it was an unplanned purchase for me this year, so I'm really enjoying it.

I've noticed on the various forums, that there is typically a "young/punk/rebel" type...a cynical, but profound, slightly older type...and a charming older, intelligent, but slightly corny type.

And then there is the mod that becomes the killjoy, when the three factors above get a bit too silly.

Sometimes I wish that I could be the cynical type...it would be a lot more fun.

That's great! I purchased this set really not knowing what to expect as I had never seen anything from this era/production company, if that's the right word.

I also have a ton of catching up to do with CC films, as well as some others I picked up along the way, including Kino's The Complete Metropolis, Inception, and The Maltese Falcon. Looks like it will be a busy Holiday season!
