Oh wow, someone at Criterion Forum went to a Pinocchio screening last night with a Guillermo Del Toro panel, and he confirmed his version of Nightmare Alley is coming to Criterion. One of the few times I can think of where they've released multiple productions of a title. (Also, Fox Searchlight, which is notable for anyone wondering if they were still working with Criterion.)

No problem! It’s exciting, but I also hope del Toro is working with Criterion on a Pinocchio release!

There are no direct promises from Criterion to actually continue those sales, so we're always in a small tizzy about whether they'll actually happen or not, not to mention trying to figure out when they'll happen. We find out usually the day before or so with an email blast to their followers announcing it. There are other tea leaves to read as well.

There's also a semiannual half off Barnes and Noble sale which, I think, is July and October.
Seems pretty likely now that the next flash sale will be a week from today.

That's my read.

Or this is the year that Criterion stops doing them.

I dunno.

Times are tough. Maybe it'll be an unsale and they'll ask for even more money for their releases.

I saw someone post about this a while back and it's been something I've been noticing for a bit.... the cover inserts not even being close to centered in Criterion releases. The cases they use end up tearing the cover art on the spine. Every copy of Hollywood Shuffle on Ebay with an in-hand pic looks the same. I guess it's another thing that's going to be the new norm along with scratched/scuffed discs.

Criterion is too busy right now to replace cover art and even then you'd have to care A LOT since I think it's $5 + shipping to get one that isn't (hopefully) torn.

Yes that happens on all most releases. It’s annoying but once you line the sleeve up properly the tears aren’t really that noticeable.

This drives me bonkers. You can't even guarantee a store copy will be OK. Usually if one is off center they all are in store This has been going on for a LONG time. I don't understand why Criterion can't rectify it.

How hard of a time have people had keeping your Flash sale money set aside?

I was doing so good, and then blowitoutahere posted a bunch of new stuff on ebay and Vinegar Syndrome announced March.
