There’s been a real drop off on Japanese titles the last few years. Arrow has cut back too. I’m not sure what the solution is but classic Japanese cinema does feel neglected recently.

My assumption was based on the fact that they already have 4K scans and I imagine they are popular titles.

I mean don't get me wrong, I'd kill for a 4K Ghost World. Maybe there'll be some pleasant surprises!

Ghost World 4K would be pretty sweet. I'd also take any/all Wes Anderson 4K upgrades if anyone from Criterion is reading this

I didn't get my coupon yet for being a Criterion Channel subscriber, did others? Wouldn't it mean its not this Tuesday? If they usually send those out close to a week ahead.

Truthfully I'd much prefer the 14th or even the 21st to be able to snag the John Woo or, more of a reach, Inland Empire.

Inland feels like a no-brainer for them to release alongside a sale, but I've questioned their release dates in conjunction with various sales before.

All the constant whining about lack of Japanese titles would be immediately replaced by how terrible the Eclipse 'blu' looks. There is NO way to win with all the whiners in this thread, so I would just let Criterion do their thing. I assume once Bill Olsen died, all the malcontents from the CR forum went forth to provide sound advice on how to run a DVD label.

Yeah, let's dilute resources even more!

I wouldn’t worry about it. Unless the Times step in, Criterion always do their own thing.

So...flash sale not happening today I guess?

I never did get the Criterion charter subscriber email over the weekend.

You know if it isn't this week, next week doesn't really make sense since the 15th is announcement day I don't think they'd want the sale to end on announcement day. Just a lot to go on to update their website from a sale, then add new release titles and graphics and stuff all in one day. Maybe that's a stretch, and they could delay announcing the June slate a day. Just kinda makes sense to me. So I feel like the 21st is looking like the most possible option at this point. Either way, stay strong my friends.

No e-mail here, and no cryptic (but not really cryptic) tweet portending the Flash sale, either.

I think two weeks is most likely as well.

This makes sense. I guess there's a chance they just opted not to give any subscribers a heads-up, and will still start it today, but more likely that it got pushed.

We'll find out in about 89 minutes.

I'm not holding my breath, though. I can't hold it for more than 47 minutes, no matter what I do.
