By the time I paid the 'half off' plus shipping, it was MORE for the titles than I'd pay any other time from Amazon as a Prime member. Plus, I usually got the titles from Amazon by the release date (with free shipping) at around 33 % off MSRP at any given time. B & N didn't ship either title until AFTER the release date, and I got them well after. They shipped slower, too, instead of Prime's two day shipping. I wound up paying 62 dollars for two titles during that sale that, any other time, would have cost me 56 dollars from Prime, with two day shipping (I got those over a week past release date).

So, I've just never seen the need to bother with those sales, since. Anyone else who enjoys them, I'm happy for you. Also, I'll add that, during the sale, Amazon often price matches B&N on many titles, as well. Then, they're way less with out shipping, and you get them much sooner.
Free shipping over their minimum plus no sales tax, and the $50 credit after $500 in purchases (essentially 10% cash back)?

It's the only way I buy Criterion discs anymore.

Interesting how there are so few. The ones mentioned (besides Crumb and All about my mother) are found in sets too.

add:

Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown
2046 (WKW)
Before Midnight (Before Trilogy)

2 out of 3 of these being part of sets also...

This is fine, and whatever works best for you is the right approach, but you definitely aren't using the sales for the maximum benefit. And if your priority is to have every disc at release, buying during the sales will never be a good fit for you. Personally, I have tons of stuff to watch and there's very little I feel the need to buy on release, so I'm looking for the best price. I place a few larger orders per year direct with Criterion (5-10 films). I easily hit the minimum for free shipping, and usually have either $10 coupons (from the Channel) or $50 certificates (for loyalty points), so after those discounts I'd say I average about $14-16 per disc. I don't typically buy from B&N unless I swing into a store and find something I want - so I'm paying more (though still just $20) for the immediate gratification of walking out with the disc.

So if you're OK paying $28ea to AMZN for Criterions so that you can get them right as released, it makes sense why you don't use the sales. I prioritize the lowest price, and don't mind getting them later, so the 50% sales are the best strategy for me. But that's the thing - each collector has their own priorities, so it's great we all have multiple options.

No tantalizing tweet on Criterion’s Twitter page, either.

I think these [50% off] sales are primarily for avid collectors who use it as an opportunity to load up.
And I think this post pretty much nailed the two main archetypes of Criterion collectors

Still hoping for next week (and think it would be smart on their part) for Inland Empire to be part of things.

That seems most likely now. I can’t imagine they’ll let a David Lunch film pass them by to help promote a sale.

So most likely Tuesday the 21st, so Inland Empire would be eligible?

Now the work begins. Determining the 'half off' price of a blu-ray.

Does the Criterion site allow you to combine gift codes? I got the $10 in today's email, and I still have an unredeemed $10 from December. I tested it today, and after I applied the December code it gave me a "This gift certificate has already been used" message when I tried to apply today's code.
