At first I was thinking maybe they meant to have the Pasolini set in the picture and somehow accidentally put the princess bride in there, but now that they just took it out completely and didn't replace the pictures with something else, it doesn't feel like an error. Seems like a title that would sell well during July

You already have the best 4K version then. The CC is Blu-ray only.

Positively in for the Pasolini box, obviously.
I'm not 4K, and don't have it yet, so I'm happy to get the Criterion BD of "The Servant". I already have the Criterion BD of "Time Bandits". And I'll get "The Rules of the Game". A classic. Likely won't get "Medicine for Melancholy". I saw it once, already, and just thought it OK. Don't feel the need to own it. So, overall a very solid month. |

A good month that seems to have something for everyone.
Criterion (or the directors) seem to be taking the strike while the iron is hot approach to 4K. I have no issues with knocking out a few 4K releases from the same director. Brazil seems very likely now. |

Going for Rules of the Game this month. I prefer the artwork of the previous edition, which beautifully captures the comic aspect of the film.
The Servant is one of the best British films out there and finally got itself a new US edition after years. It’s a bit of a hard sell since StudioCanal released it in 4K UHD a while back. Better late than never a good one to recommend for US customers. |

For ME personally, this continues to be the worst year of Criterion releases ever. I'm happy for those that are huge Pasolini fans, so that's a great release, but not for me. The lack of new Japanese films on HD is disheartening, no HK titles, no Pat Garrett or After Hours. Again, happy for those that got something they like, but Criterion 2023 has been a huge bummer for me personally.

Love the Rules of the Game upgrade (but why not update the bundled bluray?). Otherwise, I disagree with the 4K for Time Bandits. Me not being a fan of the movie aside, it's already got a solid bluray -- a 4K would be fine if not for one thing: Brazil would make a better release. It's the last Gilliam movie that doesn't have a solid release. The bluray is dvd-era and would hugely benefit not just on UHD, but a new transfer. Why does Bandits get the much less needed upgrade?
And by the way, who approves of these terrible, ugly covers? I'm not hatin' for the sake of hatin'. These are eyesores! I end up spending more money contacting a gentleman who makes customs covers for me. |

1. It's a Janus Films title. 2. It's getting a TV show on Apple TV. 3. Disney owns the international rights to Brazil, which might complicate things. |

I've upgraded Time Bandits every version starting with the laserdisk. Another great month from Criterion. They are really killing it this year.
