Decided to watch a CC film tonight, after viewing Head last night, and couldn't pick one. Too many to choose from. So, I picked a number, 56, and counted through all the ones I did not see and whichever one my finger was on when I got to that number, that was the one I was going to watch.

The winner: Paris, Texas.

Wow...blown away. I loved it! It did start a bit slow, but the payoff is well worth the price of admission. I don't normally getting visibly upset while watching movies, but man, it was pretty difficult not to feel anything.

I had been wanting to watch this for a while now, after reading about all the love it gets on here. Wondering if Wings of Desire will make me feel the same way.

Is it the same kind of emotional film? I heard it was remade into City of Angels with Nic Cage and Meg Ryan.

Few films have given me an emotional reaction like Paris, Texas. One of my all-time favorites.

You will definitely see similarities in Wings of Desire, but I wouldn't say it's the same kind of emotional film. It puts you in a more hopeful mood, if anything.

Thanks for that, don't know how I didn't see it. It sounds like a similar problem, although my firmware is all up to date. Maybe I will try it again today and see what happens.

I think it's terrific. I love B/W and the cinematography in Wings is beautiful. Naturally, the acting is superb, too. I think Peter Falk's role is really cool. One can tell he really LOVED his role in the film. He really seems to be enjoying himself. The scene with him trying on the hats is great.

Also, Bruno Ganz and co. are excellent, too. [I had to mention them or people would call me out for not liking them ].

I couldn't agree more with your choice and/or reaction to Paris, Texas. Near the very top of my list!

Wings of Desire is a different animal...a good film, but it doesn't devastate you emotionally, like Paris, Texas. It's more of Wim Wenders wanting to do an "old fashoned" German "arthouse" film...as he had done a number of "American Fims" and wanted to get a bit closer to his roots.

You'll enjoy it...but in a much different way than Paris, Texas. Peter Falk is a nice touch and quite enjoyable in his role.

Yes...City of Angels was a remake/homage to Wings of Desire and not a bad film itself.

Next year January or February I intend to order Paths of Glory, Videodrome and Hausu, all blindbuys. I have a region b locked PS3 though, I'm just future proofing myself. Maybe you guys can suggest another title that's simply a must own not counting OOP's?
