I was so thrilled when they included part of his episode with Barbra Streisand on the release of The Prince of Tides. Such a great program!

Quite a strong month. But is Moonage Daydream overrated? I have yet to see this 2022 film but read that there's not enough insight, it's too long in duration, and is a bit pretentious.

I was pretty bummed I wasn't able to see Moonage Daydream in IMAX.

I normally wouldn't care that much about, like, a normal Bowie documentary, but just the fact that a documentary like this played in IMAX and was described as a "psychedelic" "cinematic odyssey"... I could tell it was something special.

Was holding out then for a 4K version. But when I realized the UHD release was cancelled/not coming and I noticed it on Prime Video last month I just watched it there.

And I was floored. ****ing incredible movie.

There are very few documentaries I would rank as works of art up there with my all-time favourite scripted films. I would rank this 2nd after "Grizzly Man". It also pretty much revived my high school Bowie-obsession.

I ended up buying the regular blu-ray a couple weeks ago. If only I'd waited a little longer...

Super psyched for this announcement all the same.

Bummer that Criterion only gets an SDR version of The Trial. Is the Studio Canal HDR grade any good? Does it actually exceed SDR luminance values?

EDIT: Looking through that specific release’s thread and see a couple people noticing some overly bright highlights.

Wouldn’t call it overrated. However, I would strongly recommend watching it first before locking in an order. This is one of those films where the heavy, saturated style of storytelling will be too much for some. I personally liked it, but I know a handful of people who don’t like it and have expressed the same issues that you have mentioned.

From the September releases, I will get:

La Bamba,
Walkabout 4K, and
The Trial 4K.

I only picked up Blu-ray Criterion release of The Princess Bride during one of the recent sales. I also have the Blu-ray of Moonage Daydream already.

I could have sworn it was rentable in 4K on iTunes not that long ago. The (HBO)Max stream seems to be HD only unfortunately.

No doubt I'm going to watch this before I even think of purchasing the blu-ray. I noticed it's on HBO Max so I'm gonna check it out this weekend. Can't wait to share my thoughts.

The most important part of any Spoiler Alert is that the alert is given before the spoiler is provided.

It begs the question: why not just buy the regular BDs and same some dough? Nobody cares about pixel count.
