It might be bigger than just Freaks. Perhaps a box set?

Kino released Drifting, White Tiger, and Outside the Law. WAC released Mark of the Vampire. And Universal has Dracula.

So maybe The Devil-Doll, Freaks, Miracles for Sale, The Thirteenth Chair, and The Unknown? (They all seem to be his most horroresque films.)

One speculation that I saw on there that I thought could be likely would be Freaks getting a solo release and a secondary boxset of Browning's other films getting released - maybe a "Browning M-G-M silents" set or something similar (IIRC more of his Universal silents survive beyond what Kino released, but none of them are horror films). My guess is it might be harder to put together a sound film boxset thanks to those films being split between WB and Universal in ownership, but it could still be possible (I'm curious though if they did an "Browning M-G-M sound films" boxset if they'd be able to include Mark Of The Vampire because of the WAC release).

Oh man, a three film Browning set with Freaks, The Unknown, and The Devil Doll? All welcome!

The Unknown has that new restoration with additional footage floating around, played at MOMA in January and I think at Lincoln Center in March.

Either way, I'm intrigued and excited by tomorrow now!

I think they're saying that you likely already know of many movies that you have seen that you already consider to be gems, so why not show her those rather than a film you don't know?

I'll never understand the reticence of some film fans to just discovering movies for themselves.

Don't know if Mulholland Drive is the kind of movie for someone and you've never seen it? Well, you know this someone better than some strangers on the internet.

Watch Mulholland Drive and make a decision yourself.

Fingers crossed for London After Midnight! Hey, I can dream...

Seriously, any Browning would be most welcome.

Freaks and The Unknown are a given in my opinion, provided it's a three film set. Films at Lincoln Center listed a new 4K restoration of Drifting from Eastman for their retrospective, but I haven't seen the Kino, so no knowledge if they are one and the same.

The Unholy Three (other than a found source for London After Midnight) would be the most logical choice, but a case could also be made for Devil Doll. If it was up to me, I'd want a restoration of West of Zanzibar, but the Chaney fan in me will gladly accept TUT.

No, not confirmed. This will in all likelihood be a Warner-only set, and since it's an October release, I imagine they'll all be thematically horror films, so I wold say of all the Browning films that Warner has, those are the three most likely candidates.

Freaks and The Unknown sound great.

TBH I'd prefer Mark of the Vampire as the third film. Great James Wong Howe cinematography, and Browning sets a "trap" for the audience that he springs in the last few minutes of the film. It is a remarkably grown-up vampire film. And it's based on Browning's lost silent masterpiece!

October announcements are my most anticipated time for upcoming Criterions because there is usually something horror-adjacent included.

Still, their commitment to purely traditional horror movies is lacking. That and also the near lack of animated movies are my biggest criticisms with the Collection.

Someone from r/criterion found a trailer for Le Samouraļ and claims that it is the new 4K restoration. Can’t tell if this is true or not but
. Watching the trailer on my phone right now but am gonna try to watch this on a bigger screen later tonight to see the color grading better (It does look a bit dark).

I saw it in the theater with my friends when it came out. We all fell asleep. We were all pretty stoned though. Never watched it again...
