It might be bigger than just Freaks. Perhaps a box set?
Kino released Drifting, White Tiger, and Outside the Law. WAC released Mark of the Vampire. And Universal has Dracula. So maybe The Devil-Doll, Freaks, Miracles for Sale, The Thirteenth Chair, and The Unknown? (They all seem to be his most horroresque films.) Last edited by Scottie; 07-16-2023 at 09:10 PM. |

Oh man, a three film Browning set with Freaks, The Unknown, and The Devil Doll? All welcome!
The Unknown has that new restoration with additional footage floating around, played at MOMA in January and I think at Lincoln Center in March. Either way, I'm intrigued and excited by tomorrow now! Last edited by jshaide; 07-16-2023 at 09:30 PM. |

Freaks and The Unknown are a given in my opinion, provided it's a three film set. Films at Lincoln Center listed a new 4K restoration of Drifting from Eastman for their retrospective, but I haven't seen the Kino, so no knowledge if they are one and the same.
The Unholy Three (other than a found source for London After Midnight) would be the most logical choice, but a case could also be made for Devil Doll. If it was up to me, I'd want a restoration of West of Zanzibar, but the Chaney fan in me will gladly accept TUT. |

No, not confirmed. This will in all likelihood be a Warner-only set, and since it's an October release, I imagine they'll all be thematically horror films, so I wold say of all the Browning films that Warner has, those are the three most likely candidates.

Freaks and The Unknown sound great.
TBH I'd prefer Mark of the Vampire as the third film. Great James Wong Howe cinematography, and Browning sets a "trap" for the audience that he springs in the last few minutes of the film. It is a remarkably grown-up vampire film. And it's based on Browning's lost silent masterpiece! |

October announcements are my most anticipated time for upcoming Criterions because there is usually something horror-adjacent included.
Still, their commitment to purely traditional horror movies is lacking. That and also the near lack of animated movies are my biggest criticisms with the Collection. |

Someone from r/criterion found a trailer for Le Samouraļ and claims that it is the new 4K restoration. Can’t tell if this is true or not but
