In spite of its availability on YT and Mubi, I've never watched The Mystic. It was not included in the FALC retrospective and doesn't appear to have much of support from critics. Perhaps we'll learn more from the supplements for the rationale behind its inclusion.

It's hard to be unhappy with the pair of Freaks and The Unknown, but man, The Unholy Three would have been a perfect fit and there for the taking from WB.

That said, I'm holding out hope that WAC will deliver some additional Browning, especially the Chaney titles, and who knows, the success of the Criterion set may move them forward in the queue for restoration and or release.

Yeah, much like with Inland Empire “delaying” the sale in March, holding the October flash sale til October 17th would make the most logical sense.

All the titles are now in the database, so feel free to add them to your collections.

I noticed Criterion is also reissuing the standard Blu-ray release of Don't Look Now. I'm surprised they didn't just do the 4K + BD combo like they did with Le Cercle Rouge.

Although The Unknown is here, a Chaney/Browning collection would be another dream.

The BD transfer was approved by Roeg, while the 4K isn't, so I think that's why we're seeing that disc still, and not a new one.

I didn't realize that it was a box set. It's hard to tell from the poster, I assumed the other titles were tag lines. Lol. I don't know much about Tod Browning, except for Freaks. I'm not a huge silent person, I've only started dipping my toe in via the classic comedians. Maybe I will watch my recording of Freaks on the DVR to see if this is something I need to own. I've never heard of "Dont Look Now" but I like the cast. I will need to look more into that title. I don't care about the other titles.

I’ll save you the 62 minutes, 107 minutes if you count the one-reeler, two-reeler, and wine club plug: yes, Freaks is a movie you need to own. Most likely this will be a 1 or 2 disc set and not a “set” like you’re thinking.

Considering Freaks is listed as a Digipack with its own artwork, this may be three Digipacks and a book in a chipboard sleeve, like the boxes Arrow uses.

Criterion

I am overwhelmed with the Tod Browning three-film collection! I haven't been this happy with an announcement since Rosemary's Baby! Bravo Criterion! And a Grand Salut to all horror cinephiles in the Region A portion of the planet Earth!

I will say tread carefully while looking into that one as it has a twist that could spoil the experience somewhat. It's a great atmospheric film in my opinion. It does have one extended sex scene that I feel a little uncomfortable watching though

Concerning The Others, do you think the BD will be from the new 4K remaster?

I have no reason to believe it’s not. Shit answer but it’s the truth. Criterion is one of the only ones around that doesn’t play games with their releases.

As a side note, while I don’t know what the old DLN Blu was like, the old Videodrome Blu (based off a 2K remaster of the IP) is going out of print. In the future that will be based off a 4K restoration of the neg, so anyone who is either waiting to pull the trigger or has the Blu and just hasn’t broken the seal, hold off, return what you can, pawn off what you can’t before the resale value tanks. The old DVD of After Hours went from $40 to $5 in less than a day so move quick.

Eyes Wide Shut already has a new 4K DCP, but its the censored version, apparently, from that others have said. I'm looking forward to Tony Sierra's new SK13 doc, about EWS, which is supposed to finally reveal what WB cut out of the film (about the secret society) after Kubrick passed.

It will be. This is from the description on Criterion's site, specifically for the 1080p blu-ray edition:

"New 4K digital restoration, approved by director Alejandro Amenábar, with Dolby Atmos soundtrack"

Not really much of a horror guy so October usually doesn't hold much for me. I already have DLN from Studio Canal, so The Others 4K will be it for me. Happy everyone got movie(s) they have been waiting for!

I love Criterion, but sometimes they kinda do, tho. The Dazed and Confused BD wasn't from the new remaster when they did the 4k. But, I can see The Others being a different case all together.

The sex scene feels intimate, not like the physical gymnastics that Hollywood relishes. Don't Look Now is a wonderfully atmospheric horror film, people shouldn't go into it expecting Freddy Krueger. When I think of comparable films, Robert Wise's The Haunting comes to mind (though Roeg is a more impressionistic director than Wise, and you could show more in 1973 than you could in 1963).
