I’m open to exploring more Indian cinema, but I can’t lie- the convention of having musical numbers in so many films is a big turn off for me. It changes the tone in such dramatic ways and certainly kills the realism. My hang up, I guess.

I thought I would have the same issue, but it didn't bother me that much with the horror set from Mondo Macabro. I actually really enjoyed those films overall.

Solaris 4k

New to Criterion 4k:
Sunset Boulevard 4k

Blu-rays upgrades:
Long Good Friday
O Lucky Man
Peeping Tom
Simon of the Desert

New to Criterion Blu-ray:
Catch 22
Desperate Living
World's Greatest Sinner
I realize that the artist who did these passed away a few years ago, but I really miss the drawing that Criterion would release in December, which hinted at the upcoming slate of films coming in the new year.

I hope Criterion will continue releasing new Classic Hollywood titles as well as upgrading existing titles. Unless it's an upgrade from DVD to Blu Ray/4K, the upgrades from Blu Ray to 4K aren't that interesting to me.

Black Narcissus would be my first choice for a PP 4k release.

Wow 50 or 60 bones? If I’m recalling correctly I think I paid 20 for it. The screening was def an experience I’ll never forget. People were losing their minds w laughter. Def one badass movie. And the trailers before the vhs are priceless; the Fartfather or whatever flatulence obsession Carey was into at the time. Would love to see any of them

Alex Cox already hinted towards Pat Garrett (makes sense with Peckinpah and Dylan), but doesn’t Captain Blood have elements issues?

I appreciate your viewpoint and for the sake of others I hope they do release more Bollywood, but I've tried several times and I just can't dig it.

Not if you had a Japanese 4k restored version, released around a similar time frame. Few collectors like to have a known inferior version, even if it's alright on its own merits. And I daresay any HD master from more than 15 years is probably not measuring up to current standards of video expectations for even vintage titles.

It has left a legacy. They had House on as part of their Halloween season, and someone seems to be trying to keep the TCM Underground flag flying late Friday / early Saturday (They had Alphabet City on this morning). That time slot was my favorite part of the week, so many great cult films some of which I even knew about and so many new ones I learned about. Plus great shorts like Shake Hands With Danger (done by the guy who did Carnival of Souls).

I would love to have a chance to boo Zaslav at a commencement, if for nothing else than the firing of Millie De Chirico. But hey, he got his nine-figure bonus and that's what counts.

Well, the VAST majority of Japanese titles Criterion have, don't have a superior 4K restoration anywhere in the world, including Japan. Outside of a handful of Toho titles, mostly Kurosawa or Honda films, and a few other random titles, most of the 300 films Criterion have, are using older masters. So it really would be a case of older master, or no release at all, I'll take an older master in a split second versus nothing ever getting a release.

It really depends on what you watch though as it encompasses all genres and is far from a monolith. Different eras of filmmaking as well.

Not every film is going to be striving for realism though, especially if it’s more action/fantasy than just romance.

Certainly true! Though that can also be said about Western musicals - there are many people who simply don't get into them at all, despite the huge variety of styles and tones.

That was so awesome. He is a complete tool. His Wiley Coyote vs ACME fiasco has gotten congress involved.

The contents of the fourth CC box makes me believe that we'll get some Sony 4K titles from Criterion, Shout, and Arrow in 2024.

Most obvious are probably On the Waterfront (also the 70th anniversary), All The King's Men (75th), It Happened One Night (90th), Easy Rider (55th), and maybe even Taxi Driver and The Age of Innocence. Perhaps we'll get all the Best Picture winners on 4K between all the boutiques and Sony themselves.

I managed to purchase the "Dietrich and von Sternberg in Hollywood" blu ray box set at Barnes and Noble. We'll see if they're able to fulfill the order. I also picked up "The Great Dictator" and the new 4K of "The Last Picture Show."

I just managed to snag a Dietrich/von Sternberg set as well. I have been waiting for that to be back in stock for months. Here's hoping it is actually in stock. If it is, here's hoping they don't just throw it into a garbage bag and slap a shipping label on it. I returned a previous D/vS set because it was damaged, and then it was unavailable again.

Ah man. Fingers crossed. I know they had the DVD version of the set available, but the sale price is the same as the blu ray, so why would I get the DVD? I hope they have the set available too, I've been waiting for it to be on sale all year. The only issue I've ever had with packaging is ordering from Target. Two different times, my movie came with the box smashed and the cover art torn. My bird chewed up the corner of my box and cover art for "The Awful Truth." I'm hoping Criterion has started up their replacement program again.
