I hope everyone has noticed on Criterion's site that you can now click on each and every 'Cast & Crew' member under a film's title. This is a feature that I've personally been wanting for a long time.

Of course I'm also hoping to see that Criterion has re-acquired the rights to Ran but I know that's not happening and I'm happy with SC's copy.
As much as I enjoy his work...I think we already have enough for now.

He only has four titles out on Criterion Blu-Ray. I wouldn't say we're exactly drowning in Kurosawa on Blu-Ray.

Hmm... You must have the AK100 films set then. If so, I'm very jealous.

So I got to Jack's DRIVE, HE SAID tonight and it's not very good. I thought the writing was poor, the acting was lacking and the basketball scenes were bad (enough with the medium shots hiding their lack of skill level!).

The film is just not Criterion-worthy, in my opinion.

Has anyone else seen it yet? Thoughts?

If they're great films being released, I really don't see what the problem is.

I actually liked it a lot. Then again I love finding films from the 1970's that I have never seen that have been hidden away. The film isn't for everyone but I was never bored watching it. I like a raw film.

This was the first film I watched from the BBS Box Set.

I was wondering why criterion titles only have english subtitles. I'd love to show some criterion titles to my parents but they don't understand much english (or any other language, except french), even if they read the subtitles. So does anyone know why there are no french subtitles?

Thanks

Plenty of other filmmakers worth Criterion's time that would be better than yet another Kurosawa. His work is all very easy to find, Criterion should step up to the plate and release something from a filmmaker that isn't known by everyone.

Well, because all Criterions are region A - North America locked. Not sure if that answers your question. I guess not only that, but they are dedicated to bringing world cinema to America that a lot of Americans have never seen. There are plenty of French films in Criterion's catalog. Perhaps your parental units would like to see one of those?

Yes I showed them some Godards but some other non english or non french audio titles only have english subs...it's a bit sad.. I also live in Quebec so I thought they were forced by the 101 law to have french subtitles on their quebec releases since a lot of people here in quebec are french.

Wow, I come home from a long day at work and have 10 pages to catch up, and the announcements haven't even been made yet!?

First off, I laughed really hard at the Inception joke about 5 pages back.

Also, I hope Following isn't announced, I JUST imported the UK dvd, it's currently in the mail now. (I mean, it was only 2.49 pounds, so I can't really complain).

And all this talk about John Mulvaney, why doesn't someone send him/the idea an email asking about it! Or is that too obvious?
