Save us, Obi-wan Criterion, you're our only hope.
Yes, it does.

Snow Trail is an awesome movie, but it didn't have a DVD from Criterion. Would love a Blu-ray of it, as it's nice very early Mifune role.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a performance from him I didn't like. Same with Tatsuya Nakadai.

The one I really want on Blu-ray has both of them, which is Samurai Rebellion. Wish that would get a Blu-ray upgrade already.

Yeah it doesn’t have a DVD from Criterion but it is available digitally on the Criterion Channel. Still Criterion should give this a proper Blu Ray and also Stray Dogs too if not them then someone like Arrow, or another company.

Oh, I agree with you 100%. I'm still in shock we haven't gotten a new to HD Kurosawa from Criterion in nearly a decade. For me that's pretty shocking to say the least. The Kurosawa I really want on BD is The Bad Sleep Well. One of his best that often isn't mentioned in top ten Kurosawa films.

I wish I was a rich man as I'd buy out Criterion and start releasing these films myself and would throw some crazy money at Toho and wouldn't even care if I was coming out at a lose just so we could have these movies out there.

Criterion has my one of my favorite Japanese films of all time Hunter in the Dark which has a good HD scan. I love that movie so much I'd give them 10K or more just to help with production costs to get that damn movie out there.

I love "The Bad Sleep Well", it's one of Kurosawa's best films IMO and incredibly prescient in today's age.

Agreed. I saw it on the Criterion Channel a few years ago. Very interesting film.

That reminds me, does Criterion still have the rights to The Jungle Book? There was supposed to be a blu (BD-R)
release by these guys...

and the owner even posted in the American Westerns thread about also putting out Hell Town (1937) on blu. He kind of disappeared after covid and none of the releases happened. I would love to see that whole Sabu set upgraded.

While I probably sound like someone’s old miserable grandfather, I told ye that they were region-locking these 4Ks and ye didn’t listen to me!

There were maybe five locked a few years ago, but they were so low-caliber that I think they were meant to test the waters. Now this comes along and it’s a big one.

That being said, to anyone who has a “region free 4K player” (ie, can play DVDs and Blu-rays from anywhere in the world), can you play the KOTFM 4K anywhere in the world?

Samurai Rebellion? It does have a CC DVD though, one I used to have (had a solid transfer for a DVD): https://www.criterion.com/films/753-samurai-rebellion

Snow Trail is in pretty rough condition on the channel. It's borderline not even DVD quality. It would need a proper restoration.

The Last Wave is available in 4K from Umbrella (I hope they are planning on The Year of Living Dangerously).

Astounding that Z is not available on BD.
