Does anyone have experience with getting replacement discs that are not part of a large replacement program? I was watching my copy of The Philadelphia Story tonight when it froze and skipped during Hepburn’s first scene with the reporters.

I decided to send an email about this and another disc I had issues with. My copy of The Valley of the Dolls won’t play at all because it has a small chip in it.

I purchased these discs long ago but only noticed these flaws on recent, first time viewings (or attempted viewings). I have a large collection and I can’t watch everything as soon as I buy it.

I wouldn’t mind paying a small fee to just replace the discs.

They might give you the generic "this is how you clean your discs" response first, but I had zero issues replacing my disc of SUMMER WITH MONIKA once I was able to talk to a real person (similar experience to the person above).

Just a friendly reminder that most of you channel subscribers probably received another $10 reward back in December (the 8th to be precise). At least I did. I only use mine during sales and sometimes forget about the ones that show up during other times of the year.

Yes, I also received a $10 certificate from Criterion on 12/08/2023 as a promotion for their Christmas 30% off sale.

The only bummer if it is next week is we can't use the discount on the upcoming March releases, correct? I seem to recall it only applies to pre-orders if they are released in the month of the sale.

Edit: Thanks @eightslicesofpie for clarifying that Criterion site flash sales only apply to currently released and in-stock items, not preorders.

That's true of the Barnes & Noble sale, but with the Criterion site flash sales it's only on things that are currently released + in stock, so no pre-orders at all unfortunately

What are the chances of Criterion ever doing Barry Jenkins's The Underground Railroad? Have they ever done a TV miniseries before or is there no real precedent for that?

All that talk about a $10 code got me to remember that they sent me one back in December to use. I am hoping it will still work for this next sale. I don't have a sub to their channel, but it was sent as a "valued customer" in the past.

If you count Steve Mcqueen’s Small Axe as a miniseries. I hope they do The Underground Railroad, I would love that!

That's what made me think of it (especially the Amazon connection), but even though Small Axe is kinda branded as a miniseries it really is just a collection of movies, so I'm not sure if Criterion would want to touch The Underground Railroad...

They don't expire and they are also stackable.

Yes, they have released some television series: Bergman's television version of Scenes from a Marriage and Fanny and Alexander, Fassbinder's Eight Hours Don't Make a Day and Berlin Alexanderplatz, Kieślowski's Dekalog, and John Lurie's Fishing with John (DVD only.) So I think that The Underground Railroad could be something they are interested in. (Personally, I would love it if they rescued NWR's Too Old to Die Young.)

That's so rad! I knew about Fanny & Alexander but that's a special case since it's also got a movie cut so I wasn't sure if I should count it, but I didn't know abut the rest of those. Thank you for sharing!
