Damn, was hoping this sale pushed into march like the last couple of years. In 2 weeks, it would have been a much better time for me.

Yeah, I'm in no particular hurry for any more sales.

It will only be a couple weeks after this that the next Kino sale rolls around.

And they obviously still have at least the DVD rights, considering it's still in-print all these years later.

Well, if you buy directly from Criterion you can build up your loyalty points. Once you spend $500 you get $50 more to spend with them.

I still have my December code to use too. Forgot all about it. First time in a long time a code didn’t come to me. I’m charter member to the Channel, subbed to the newsletter/emails and nothing in my Junk folder. Maybe it’s just running late.

I've kind of run out of Criterion titles that I'm interested in. I think I still have at least 3-4 of the last $10 codes that were sent out. I'll probably pick up "The Roaring Twenties" in this sale. It's the only announcement in months that I've been interested in. I'm also on a bit of a Cagney kick right now.

I'm considering picking up the following in the Flash sale Tuesday.
Still refining the list, but would appreciate any perspective-yay or nay- that anyone wants to offer.

Red Balloon- Haven't seen it, or the other shorts included, but I'm entranced by the short clip on the Criterion page for it.

Limelight- Haven't seen it. Been flirting with picking it up for several years now.
I'm strongly pulled to the theme of an artist living with his best years behind him, but at the same time repelled by what I expect will be some overly maudlin shading.
Love Claire Bloom, but I also get the feeling her role will be less of a real character and mostly just there to serve as a reflecting pool for Chaplin to venerate his own 'tragic' majesty.

Tokyo Story - Never seen it. Film buffs rave about it, so film-wise it seems a good bet. Is there any reason to wait for a newer remaster or some other rumored repackaging?

Godland - right now this is the only sure pick up for me. Getting a strong Black Robe vibe from the trailer, which also looks visually ravishing.

Moonage Daydream - Not a huge Bowie fan, but this looks like a wild visual trip that could be creatively inspiring, as well giving me a better appreciation of his work/personas.

Mishima - similar to the Bowie film, I get the impression this could be a creatively stimulating film. Also, Schrader is a filmmaker that runs hot and cold for me. I have a lot of respect for his earlier 70's work , but after Cat People his output became really erratic for me. This is one of those packages that, even if I don't dig the film, I'm thinking might be saved by the supplemental content?

Need some advice...

Here are a few of the titles I think I might grab:

Godzilla
Lone Wolf and Cub
Red River

Should I wait for 4Ks on these?

It's the 70th anniv of .. GODZILLA

Criterion released a standard edition of .. RED RIVER .. not too long ago.

The elementary school I went to had a 16mm print of The Red Balloon. It fascinated me as a child and I still love it now. Buy it, the kid in you will be glad.

I don't see a possibility of a 4K set for LONE WOLF AND CUB (in the near future); all of the restorations were done at 2K.

GODZILLA your guess is as good as mine. Will there also be an ALI: FEAR EATS THE SOUL 4K because of an anniversary? I'm not personally holding my breath for releases from Criterion because of anniversaries anymore, unless it's someone they've held off on a box set for.

But really, I'm not even sure a 4K version of the LONE WOLF & CUB films would look all that much better to the average eye.

How long does Criterion's flash sales usually last?

I was really hoping for a March sale instead. I would love to place a large order, but I cannot really justify it before I get paid on Thursday.

Dammit! I thought it was something like that ...

And they only have the two flash sales a year - in February or March and again in October, right?
