Yeah, sorry but I don't think you'd find any type of "official" information about it from anyone other than us forum members discussing it. Criterion's not gonna announce every little mishap, I'm afraid. I had originally read about the 'Marienbad' slipcover issue with a user in a different forum and I then posted the info over in this forum.

A similar packaging issue happened with my booklet for "In The Realm Of The Senses" where the text in the second half was unreadable, so I just sent Jon Mulvaney over at Criterion an e-mail about it, and within a week I had a new booklet. I always offer to send my stuff back in, as well, but Criterion's not concerned about receiving something back if it's "wrong," ya know?

By the way, one of the cast members of "Gomorra" was arrested with real mafia allegations.

GOMORRAH BD

Matteo Garrone’s Gomorrah is a stark, shocking vision of contemporary gangsterdom, and one of cinema’s most authentic depictions of organized crime. In this tour de force adaptation of undercover Italian reporter Roberto Saviano’s best-selling exposé of Naples’ Mafia underworld (known as the Camorra), Garrone links five disparate tales in which men and children are caught up in a corrupt system that extends from the housing projects to the world of haute couture. Filmed with an exquisite detachment interrupted by bursts of violence, Gomorrah is a shattering, socially engaged true-crime story from a major new voice in Italian cinema.

Default What Region are older Criterion Discs?

I have a question for you Criterion DVD experts - are Criterion DVD Discs released worldwide - in other words, are they region 0? I assume that they are not, and that these are most likely bootlegs.
Someone pointed me to this site specifically and this DVD "Hard-Boiled" but the region is 0: http://www.criteriondvd.com/criterio...ard_boiled.php.

I was under the assumption that Criterion was USA only? To get the rights for ALL regions would be a nightmare. Smells of bootleg, yes?
Thanks

I'm not sure if all of their standard DVD releases were region-free, but I think some of them were. That's why a lot of people were upset to see that their blu-rays were only going to be Region A. Hopefully, though, someone else with more knowledge will come in here and set things straight.

Ah, thanks so much for the reply..
Offhand, do you know if Hard-Boiled was region-free?

EDIT: NEVER MIND - I seem to have found several places referencing it's region-freeness.
Okay, thanks alot!

Most (99%, if not all) of Criterion DVDs were Region Free. Hard Boiled from The Criterion Collection was a Region Free DVD, with an almost unique 1.92:1 transfer ratio. The site you mention seems to be ok, at least from a first rough glance, because, for example, a Criterion release of Rebecca is long OOP and they don't have it either. Not a proof, I know, but at least a realistic approach. By the way, what stops you from buying the same title from eBay?

I just want to know if anyone is able to find the fantastic Last Emperor for around $15, $24-30 seems a bit much for that movie.

My Kagemusha and Play Time have shipped.... Hopefully I receive them tomorrow, but I'm guessing Thursday, or maybe even Friday. Ordered via Amazon.....

Either way, can't wait to see the detail in Play Time!

Okay they release Playtime, but where's M Hulot's Holiday Mon Oncle and Trafic! By the way what was the first out of the Jacques Tati films to be released on DVD all those years ago?

Playtime was more than likely released first since it underwent a major restoration for the previous 2 Disc DVD release and I believe was from a 70MM negative. Playtime is very famous for all of the detail within the framing of the film, some believe the best way to view this film is in theatres only.. so it was a great candidate for a BD release. I would glady buy the other films like Trafic and Mon Onlce etc... when they finally re-issue those.

Criterion released "M. Hulot's Holiday," "Mon Oncle," and "Playtime" in succession as spine #'s 110, 111, and 112. Not sure if they were all released on the same day, or not, though.

ccfixx,

Could you describe the problem you talk about here?

I didn't notice anything wrong with mine, but that was just a brief looksee. I'll have to look closer when I get home.

Thanks!

My El Norte and Last Metro arrived this morning from Barnes & Noble.
If only they'd arrived yesterday I'd have had all the Criterion BDs available, if only for one day
Still, my Kagemusha and Playtime also shipped from Amazon last night.
