I just found out that The Last Temptation of Christ had a 4K DCP screening at the Museum of the Moving Image about a month and a half ago. Could a 4K UHD be coming soon?

I'm hoping that you're merely venting over the many, many annoyances of modern life and that doing so has provided some sort of relief.

With that being said, I can't imagine this is something Criterion can be blamed for. There are probably hundreds of titles people "think" Criterion has, many of which they likely don't, so getting angry over an unfulfilled rumor is an internal issue.

Mackenna's Gold doesn't feel like a Criterion movie to me, either. I actually thought it was awful. Something Kino should be releasing, not Criterion.

Where did the rumor even start that Criterion were releasing Mackenna's Gold? It's funny to see someone get upset at Criterion for something they never confirmed or announced they were releasing. Criterion didn't lead anyone to believe it was coming.

That's what I'm trying to find out. The site search doesn't let you search for "Mackenna's" and searching for "Mackenna" doesn't seem to capture instances of Mackenna's, so searchingfor "Gold" obviously turns up a lot of unrelated results. So far the only other post I see is from a few years ago with this user making the same complaint that there were rumors five or six years prior that Criterion would release it. I'm now determined to get to the bottom of this.

Yeah, I came to the same roadblocks searching for it here. I also looked at criterionforum.org, and found nothing. The closest connection to Criterion, and the film I see is that it was on the streaming channel March 2020.

Yeah, that's where I watched it, but this person claims rumors from around 2015 or so. I went back all the way to 2013 and found nothing. Tried searching through Google and found no connections besides its appearance on the Criterion Channel. I'm starting to think this person has been driving himself insane for a decade for misreading or mishearing something. I've encountered no other rumors beyond the two posts of his I've seen mentioning it.

I wonder if he somehow confused Criterion and Twilight Time? In my search I came across a post from May 2016 that said TT planned to release it, but only after a restoration was done.

Does anyone have an estimate on how long it takes for a Janus Films movie to come out on a Criterion Blu-ray? Inquiring specifically about The Beast starring Lea Seydoux.

Personally, I've been in constant unending pain every day of my life since Criterion announced Kindergarten Cop waiting for its eventual release.

Don't tell me about the Kino 4k release, I just need Criterion approved Arnold in my life otherwise I will suffer.

I would say about 7 or so months from theater to Blu-ray in some cases. There's 3 stages: theatrical and then about a month or two later it is added to the Criterion Channel, and then around 4-5 months later it gets a Janus Contemporaries releases.

Here's an example using the film The Innocent (L'innocent) (2022)

US Theaters - Around March/April 2023
Criterion Channel - Added May 23, 2023
Blu-ray - Janus Contemporaries on October 17, 2023

There's no exact science to it though, so it will vary somewhat from title to title.

I'm not sure if anyone will see this, or if anyone will know any of the answers, but I was wondering if The Criterion Collection's DVD release of White Dog (1982) was still in print? On their website it just says "out of stock". On other pages, such as "Rosemary's Baby", it says "out of print". I saw on the back cover of White Dog, it has the Paramount logo. Do you think there's a possibility this might make it to Blu-ray or 4K some day from The Criterion Collection? Or maybe Paramount themselves will release it? Or another company who works with Paramount? I haven't seen it in years, but I remember really liking it! Sorry for all the questions. Lol

Guesses:

Boys Don't Cry BD/4K
Burden of Dreams BD
Chungking Express 4K
Dancer in the Dark BD/4K
Le Pont du Nord BD
Salaam Bombay BD/4K
Upgrade of existing Czech film

Lots of SD films with HD images on Criterion's website, but nothing stands out as having been updated recently.

A lot of films are currently listed as "Out of Stock" on their website. I would say it's just a matter of time before they restock.

That being said, I feel like White Dog is a film that people have been asking for for quite some time. So I'm not sure what the hold up is.

We've all been there. You spend a ton of money on something you really want when you see it's coming to blu-ray, only to receive the biggest disappointment in video quality.
Several of these manufacturer names have had their issues, too.
I refuse to spend a dime on anything Arrow Video puts out if they are not going to take bly-ray.com serious enough to offer them a copy for their followers to learn about the release.
This has a high chance of me spending the ridiculous amount of money these labels want for their releases, if only they took blu-ray.com serious enough to have a review posted - but now, Arrow Video gets nothing from me and hopefully other readers and followers of blu-ray.com - 5 years later after the release, and still nothing.
Arrow video gets nothing from me!

That's huge. I hope it's this year's surprise Scorsese UHD because the old Criterion disc looks very dated now which is given considering it's sourced from a Datacine transfer of the interpositive.

Predictions:

Chocolat (1988)
A Woman of Paris (1923)
Foxy Brown (1974) 4K
Naked Lunch (1991) 4K
The Wandering Princess (1960)

August has been a historically lower-key month for Criterion, though occasionally we'll see a box set announced (like the Varda set in 2020).

Or even better, 4K UHD of one of the best film of the 90s (my own favorite Tarantino)....

Although it was originally intended to be one, Foxy Brown is in fact not a sequel of Coffy. Foxy Brown has its 50th anniversary this year, and a new restoration recently premiered in theaters. It's possible Criterion could release both.
