Would love the Margaret Extended Cut (I know it would probably be a lot of work to get that together)

I see it’s screening in June in LA with a Q&A with the director

August has been a historically lower-key month for Criterion, though occasionally we'll see a box set announced (like the Varda set in 2020).
Thinking Foxy Brown and Coffy may be getting VS releases for halfway to Black Friday and Black Friday. Been hoping for these with all the ex olive titles they have been doing and the latest newsletter banner hinting at some art ( hand with razor blade ) has me almost convinced. That being said I’d gladly take these from criterion as well.

It's a sequel in all but name (Its original working title was Burn, Coffy, Burn!).

Put another way, Coffy was the film that made Pam a star, Foxy Brown was the follow-up.

I'd like for that to be true, but there's no way. VS hasn't released a single blaxploitation film since 2018 and very soon isn't selling any at all, after Penitentiary II goes out of print in the near future. VS goes harder for the money than Criterion, refusing to release films that they think won't bring them enough profit, and blaxploitation as a whole belongs to that category. Wishing that VS would prove me wrong, but I don't think they'll put out a black film ever again.

Extremely well said, and as gutted as I am to admit it, I agree with you 100%.

I don't understand it, either. Some of the best over-the-top 70's grindhouse cinema is found within blaxploitation. Some of the coolest and most ruthless women are found in blaxploitation films. And some of the funniest scenes in 70's cinema belong, again, to blaxploitation films. It was an era of anything goes and exploration to see what could be marketed and sold, and while there are seldom masterpieces in the genre (Black Belt Jones being in the running), there is always a solid entertainment value to be found. ...Moreso than a lot of modern films, imho.

Most likely it will continue traveling in the throws of the forgotten as physical media continues to shut its door on it... and I haven't the slightest hope that streaming will be kinder to the era of 70's blaxploitation.

Imprint releasing a dated master right on the cusp of a 4K remaster, what a surprise.

And speaking of digital bits, we're seriously hating the long reviews that get close to telling you when the toilet was flushed during the movie.
No wonder you only get one review from one of their staff every two or three or four weeks.

And almost as pi**ed off over the Disney deal with the rights to Doctor Who (instead of airing on BBC America on over-priced cable), and Disney's refusal to release Doctor Who on disc.

This may be the first time I've said this... thank God for bootlegs!

Let's not forget the bullsh** deal where WWE Monday Night Raw will be exclusively streaming only on Netflix beginning 2025 (the ultimate greed experience and they don't care how many people just got excluded from years of watching).

The Kansas City Chiefs play-off game months ago (on Peacock streaming service only, not broadcast TV) and the huge loss of viewers wasn't enough of a clue?

Corporate America is already driving us insane with toilet quality customer service out of some foreign country.
Thank God for the Better Business Bureau, who seem to be the free service of corporate America and came to the rescue many, many times.

I no longer care about Criterion since a few years ago, where we were led to believe things like the 1969 Mackenna's Gold movie was getting a release... and we're still waiting.
And the joke that was the Godzilla box set with way too many issues.

I'm also pretty sure most of us have purchased a program on disc, looking forward to seeing it again, only to have that "music rights" issue come up again, and the consumer just got screwed over once again with replaced music or edited garbage and not the original program.

Wasn't that already beyond ridiculous for an issue back 20 years ago when Paul McCartney made it known that he had to pay someone every time he performed one of his songs?

What's the next piece of bullsh** corporate America wishes us to deal with?

Screw Criterion, screw digital bits, screw Disney, screw the WWE, screw every place that doesn't have a real customer service department.

Let's see, that list begins with Walmart, Target, Kohl's, Etsy (bootleg Heaven), Ruko (I guess I should feel lucky they responded to a problem from February... in May!!!), and a lot more.

The bigger they are (like Fed Ex who can't find your address), the worst they are to deal with.

Speaking of Fed Ex (who can't find your address and things end up missing or stolen), after 15 years of complaining to Walmart (to stop using Fed Ex), you'd think they'd notice how often they're replacing missing or stolen packages and switch delivery carriers in our area.
Nope!

Oh, and screw you Facebook, for freezing / cancelling tons of accounts people have had for 10, 15, 20 years now...because they don't have cell phones to answer your stupid bots and their stupid codes that can't be texted back to you, and Facebook doesn't respond when personal info is sent to them in attempts to get accounts returned.

Yup, just like Twitter is doing now to a lot of long term users... oh, excuse me, they're called X now.
How appropriate, since they are X'd out of our lives now.

Pay attention advertisers!
You aren't getting that noticed like you were... and Corporate America is lying to you!

So much for the new laptop that you buy your parents who don't understand technology very well, assuming they have a way to connect to the internet.
Some of them don't even come with Solitaire anymore, either.

You'd think things are screwed up enough that your Federal and State representatives would pay attention to your complaints, but it's like they're using a toilet quality country customer service, too.
Idiots.

But then, only in America could a Supreme Court Judge get millions of dollars of stuff and there aren't laws to remove them instantly... like a cop shooting, and automatic administrative leave whlile an investigation takes place.
I checked out of this bollocks around "frustrate and bore me".

But yes, as MifuneFan said, you can disable the annoying ads very easily. Always remember to log in to the site first thing too, or those ads will just keep popping up the whole time you're on here.

Nothing more irritating than reading about the picture quality of SAVE 30% ON YOUR CAR INSURANCE WITH PROGRESSIVE!!! when you first wake up in the morning. -_-

I certainly hope so. I'm waiting for the 4K to drop to finally see this movie. Scorsese is one of the few directors who's involved with his home video releases that actually does them right, so he and his team would create another solid transfer out of TLTOC.

In OP's defense, it's likely that something like this happened. One of KL's guys said Gillo Pontecorvo's Burn! was with Criterion back in 2016 and that a release was imminent. It never showed. There was a whole list of WB titles that Criterion had for several years too. Most of them showed up, but we're still waiting on many others.

I've personally never heard anything about Mackenna's Gold, but that doesn't mean nothing was said.

This has a high chance of me spending the ridiculous amount of money these labels want for their releases, if only they took blu-ray.com serious enough to have a review posted - but now, Arrow Video gets nothing from me and hopefully other readers and followers of blu-ray.com - 5 years later after the release, and still nothing.

While I'm expecting a dull month, here's what I'm hoping for:

-Scorsese on 4K
-Anything Kubrick on 4K
-Anything P&P
-Something from Japan, preferably from a good master
-Brazil 4K (all cuts)
-Blade Runner 4K (all cuts)
-Hawaii 4K (both cuts)
-The Alamo 4K (both cuts)
-The Greatest Story Ever Told 4K (all cuts)
-Quo Vadis 4K
-Captain Blood (either format)
-King Kong 4K
-Greed (at least include the 1999 cut)
-Anything Disney-owned

And the one that definitely won't happen but definitely should, the uncut version of The Devils on 4K.
