it does not, it goes right to Paramount.

Yeah, it was definitely a long shot. I do suspect it's Arrow, but yeah, even VinSyn is not out of the question.

Thanks everyone for checking!

It absolutely does cost extra when you consider how little restraint some of us have. (Thank you very much, unmedicated ADHD... ) My collection is past the 5,000 disc point, and that's just from US releases & ABC discs. I do not need the temptation of having a region free player in the house.

I really hope to see Light Sleeper, Sorcerer, and Obayashi get releases from Criterion. I would definitely be down for a Sorcerer UHD since the 4K restoration for this looks absolutely beautiful. I'm surprised Light Sleeper still hasn't gotten a Blu-ray release here in the states (I bought myself a copy on iTunes about a year ago).

Would love to see UHDs of Manhunter and L.A. Confidential, even though I'm certain Criterion won't be getting these titles (L.A. Confidential is stuck with Disney now).

Gohatto (Taboo) would tick both of these boxes.

My copy of Blue Velvet 4K arrived today so I’m happy regardless of the announcement.

Lol. Fair point. I myself fall into that category as well.

I MIGHT get the Long Good Friday, but still really hoping from some new to BD Japanese movies, especially something like Samurai Rebellion. It's crazy that this is still not on BD.

Mines not coming in till next week it’ll be a first time watch for me, and my third David Lynch movie. I’m excited I loved both the Elephant Man and the Straight Story so I’m looking forward to Blue Velvet quite a bit.

After watching Kubi I was actually thinking about Gohatto a bit as they share a lot of similar themes and some of the same cast. Gohatto does it a lot better though and would really love to revisit it, so I'd be extremely happy if it's announced. My favorite Ryûhei Matsuda performance.

They've had the rights to Sada forever, I don't know why they didn't release it after the big success of House.

I wonder if they still have that. It was on the channel and opened with the Criterion and Janus logos, but it left a couple years ago and hasn't been back.

More Oshima is always welcome. We can actually upgrade the current titles as well (Death by Hanging is the only one that Criterion released with a 4K restoration; all the other Oshima films already in the collection have been restored in 4K years ago).

The Cruel Story of Youth, which was his first major film, had a 4K restoration that Eureka released years ago as well.

I would love to see a release of Night and Fog in Japan, but I also think this is a film that won't translate easily with US customers because of the historical and political context surrounding the film (The film was pulled from theaters following the assassination of a Japanese politician on live TV weeks after its theatrical release). It's not exactly like Night and Fog, but both films cover themes relating to memory and never forgetting the past.

My hope is to see all of Oshima's works come out on physical one day but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Gohatto is undoubtedly one of his more well-known works so I can definitely see it coming out eventually.

It was on there a year ago, but yeah, it does seem to be gone? Usually Criterion holds onto its films with a death grip, so surprised it's gone, especially since they have so many of Oshima's film. Well hope they still have it and will release it soon if they do.

I have no sense of time. Maybe a new restoration is happening and they'll do a theatrical run?

Premier desires was also streaming forever (way back in the Hulu days, where it was always among the most popular titles) with the Criterion/Janus logos and it left the channel a month or two back. But no surprise that they'd let that one go.

I'm happier with the earlier in the day switch, but I remember sometimes waiting til like 5pm, even close to 6pm for announcements. Woof.
