I didn't notice anything wrong with mine, but that was just a brief looksee. I'll have to look closer when I get home.

Thanks!
Right around the second half of my "In The Realm Of The Senses" booklet (somewhere around the interview piece with director Nagisa Oshima) the printing job was bad. Not sure how to describe it in technical printing terms, but the white text was a bit blurred and very faint so that the black page was predominantly bleeding through the white layer. It was decidely unreadable on my part, and Criterion was more than happy to replace it for me.

That's good to hear. I just find it common practice now to do a bit of scanning through booklets like that just to ensure that all is well. It's rare that there are any issues, but you never know.

Strong Criterion support!!

IT’S A BLU WORLD

Whether to the landscapes of feudal Japan or the glass buildings of modernist Paris, high-definition just seems to bring newfound clarity. Today, we present two of the most visually striking films in the Criterion Collection in new Blu-ray editions: Akira Kurosawa’s Kagemusha and Jacques Tati’s Playtime. And according to the experts, these are the most vivid versions of these masterpieces you’ll find anywhere. Writes Blu-ray.com about Kurosawa’s magnificent, Palme d’Or–winning samurai epic: “Kagemusha is a visual feast. Fortunately for us, it is Criterion that brings it to Blu-ray ... This is the best this beautiful film has ever looked.” And DVD Talk proclaims about Tati’s visionary Monsieur Hulot comedy: “Few films are as ideally suited to the Blu-ray format ... This is one of the best Blu-ray releases of the year, and a must-own.” Read more reviews below, and happy viewing!

Still waiting for The Blob-Steve McQueen and Videodrome.
are you saying Videodrome is no good?

and I mean, they obviously don't only do 'great' movies, they do things they feel represent a given genre or style.

but I'd still be curious as to what exactly you're talking about.

edit - my playtime and kagemusha have shipped as well. preordering is nice because today when I checked out the releases it was like a surprise present!... though I STILL wish I had the option of paying amazon in advance. the surprise in my bank account is a little less welcome.

Criterion should release "Le huitième jour" (The Eighth Day) on Blu-ray.

I'm thinking of buying Bottle Rocket and In The Realm Of Senses.
Now I never watched them before, so this is a question to all of you Criterion fans, how are these two movies?
Thanks for the help.

Well, I personally enjoy both movies, but not everyone has the same tastes as me. It doesn't hurt, either, that they're both visually gorgeous. If you haven't already, I'd suggest reading through pro-b's reviews of both films on this site... "Bottle Rocket" & "In The Realm Of The Senses."

This was pointed out at criterionforum.org. It looks like we might be getting (re-)releases of:
Ace in the Hole (1951, Billy Wilder)
Blast of Silence (1961, Allen Baron)
Days of Heaven (1978, Terrence Malick)
Gimme Shelter (1970, David and Albert Maysles) [this was also listed in Criterion's initial BD announcement]
The Hit (1984, Stephen Frears)
Hausu (1977, Nobuhiko Obayashi)
Hunger (2008, Steve McQueen)
If... (1968, Lindsay Anderson)
Mystery Train (1989, Jim Jarmusch)
Paris, Texas (1984, Wim Wenders)
Two-Lane Blacktop (1971, Monte Hellman)
Videodrome (1983, David Cronenberg)

Given the number of them that are already available, or already announced..... I think that list is probably a VERY good indicator of what releases to expect in the not too distant future.....

I look forward to these!

Paris, Texas is a great movie that is currently out of print on DVD.

I thought House (Hausu) was just so-so. It has some inspired moments, but overall, I don't think it belongs in the Criterion Collection.

Does Criterion's own website ever offer any promos like free shipping or otherwise? I will probably start porting my dvd Criterion collection over and I saw in their shopping area on their site it says promo code.
Thanks in advance

I guess this would be a good list for upcoming BD releases but these are films they choose to show as part of the festival noted. Keep in mind Criterion has been doing HD masters for years now on their titles. - they are just taking forever in releasing them. Most of the titles on the list I would own if they are released for sure. But people should be aware this isn't any guarantee.

Got a copy and, after seeing it, felt quite anguished knowing how incredible RAN would've looked if Criterion actually retained the rights to it.

Not only would I love to see Ran from Criterion, but also every other Kurosawa film. Throne of Blood would be awesome!
