Haven't heard anyone say that but Mike Leigh didn't take anything, he just talked about some of his favorite films and put them back to the shelf. Think William Friedkin's video was similar and he might have said that he had most of the titles already. We also didn't see John Sayles take any movies. There may be others as I haven't watched all videos, maybe around half of them.

The person that came after Barry Jenkins was forced to leave empty-handed because the closet had been completely raided

In case you haven't seen it yet. I can't believe it's been 7 years since this video.

Just got a funny email from newsletter@news.criterion. com to complete a survey for 25 bucks. Anybody getting these emails?

Sounds like a phishing scam. Criterion uses the email address newsletter@news.criterion.com

There is a survey from Criterion that people have gotten today from the newsletter email address.

Yes, sorry I corrected the email. It came from that one. I clicked the survey but then it just said I was done with survey with no questions.

I think they've probably had the number of responses that they wanted.

Yeah, looks like it's legit. Others on Reddit got it too:

I got it, I did it. It took me an hour to finish it (on my phone) and some answers made me have an existential crisis. It was equally about Criterion, Criterion Channel and Mubi. My extreme speculation is that they are thinking of merging.

It was Tubi for me. I think it’s just evaluating how you perceive one brand versus another, and it wouldn’t surprise me if other people were asked about Hulu or something.

Tubi is not a natural fit for many of the questions asked.

Yeah, someone on the Criterion Forum mentioned they were asked what streamers they use and they were asked about the two they said they used, and MUBI wasn't one of them they selected and they weren't asked about it.

I was hoping for a Heisei Godzilla set in November, but given CC40's release, we're probably not getting that, so I adjusted my November wishlist:
Paris, Texas 4K
Seven Samurai 4K
Godzilla (1954) 4K
Brazil 4K
Napoleon Dynamite 4K - wildcard pick

Barry Jenkins’s Closet Picks - YouTube
7 years later and still my favorite. An epic fleecing.

If only they would release John Ford's The Informer that would be a FIRST DAY BUY!

Dead Presidents 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray
You cannot tell me that Criterion doesn’t have plans to put this out on Blu-Ray like I said they put this out on Laserdisc along with Menace II Society which already got upgraded to 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray two years ago. I could see this either this month or next year I’m leaning more towards next year though on this.
Akira Kurosawa Blu-Ray box set with Stray Dog, Drunken Angel, and the Bad Sleep Well upgraded to Blu-Ray
Seven Samurai 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray
Paper Moon 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray
A Simple Plan 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray Criterion has this I can feel it in my bones it’s becoming more and more unlikely that Arrow Video has it.
Winchester 73
Eyes Without a Face 4K UHD Plus Blu-Ray a complete missed opportunity by Criterion to put this out on 4K UHD in October so November

Some November predictions...

Seven Samurai 4K
Paris, Texas 4K
Amadeus 4K
An earlier PTA title (Boogie Nights or Magnolia), but would die for There Will Be Blood or The Master
Passing
I'm thinking of ending things (another wildcard wishlister)
The Thin Red Line/Malick 4K

Would be great if the US finally had a release at all, but especially a good Criterion release, of Hard Eight...
