Same here actually. The recent Kino sale drained my movie purchasing budget for the first part of October.

It is but for some reason who ever runs this site has disabled the ability to imbed YouTube from the mobile app. All they have to do is enable it and it would be easier to post YouTube videos for those of us who use our phones to post here.

Saw THE STRANGER AND THE FOG tonite. An incredible and insane film outta Iran, which has gone virtually unseen since it debuted at a film fest in the 70s, due to it getting banned. Restored by the Scorsese World Cinema Project. Keep an eye out for this one.

It's probably just me, (I'd go in the van if there were no line) but I'd rather watch a movie than stand in line for that.

Oh same. I think the most I’d wait on that line is maybe 45 minutes? But it was like 8 hours last Saturday and the weather was total bulls hit all day, so I figured today would be worse.

My unpopular take is that entry should require a NYFF ticket. Not even for that day, just a ticket from a screening. That could easily have a workaround too.

If you are in New York, IndieWire tweeted that Peter Becker will be interviewed tomorrow at 4PM at this live Screen Talk podcast (he isn't mentioned as a guest on the page, but, as I said, he was mentioned in the tweet that they sent out with this link.)

Also, from Ryan Swen's twitter, Zeinabu irene Davis confirmed that Compensation is coming in August.

Another twitter rumor, is that Sean Baker's Prince of Broadway, known to be coming, is going to be an April release.

Is anyone else seeing a larger number of discs with issues from Criterion these days. I'm in the UK so just generally import them, I got The Red Shoes 4k which I had issues with just a few weeks back and scratches on the disc, I've just had in The Ranown Westerns set, and it has turned up and the discs look in rough shape too! These aren't cheap items and especially importing to the UK they become very pricey very quickly, and yet the standards don't seem to be anything like what I'm getting from UK labels these days.

I want to send off another email to their customer service and would like to get these Ranown discs replaced, I had the red shoes replaced but it was a bunch of messing about, plus extra shipping costs, as they only ship replacements for free to domestic US. I may have to reconsider importing from Criterion in future as it is simply too much hassle. I noticed it is all these Made in Mexico ones.

Does anyone know if customer service replaced scratched discs that appear functional, with the red shoes the disc was faulty, but not sure about these Ranown ones, fed up of having to check discs immediately, especially with a big boxset like this that can take me months to get through!!!

It's been a massive problem for a few years now (and if anything is getting worse!). Whenever I order a load via Strackry I tend to have at least 1 in 3 discs with problems and sometimes it can be half of them!

The good thing is that Criterion tend to stand by their product and customers, and from my experience they will replace scratched/damaged discs. It's a shame they now charge to send replacements to the UK however they will send replacements to my Strackry address so I usually do that around when I have an order to ship over so that it's only costing the $2 consolidation fee to get over to me.

One problem so far with Blood Simple, although my Criterion collection is rather small.
Close to the end the movie has interruptions. I checked for scratches and cleaned the disc with a microfibre cloth, the problem remains.

I have more problems with the carriers when importing movies from Amazon.com, the movie boxes are quite often damaged. The few Criterion releases I could import from Amazon.co.uk were all in mint condition at arrival.
Is there another more secure way to import Criterion releases to continental Europe?
Pity I can't order directly at Criterion and that Amazon.co.uk just sells a small part of the available collection.

To be fair I can sympathise with them, and certainly wouldn't expect them to ship to me in the UK free of charge, it is just a bit of a pain, especially as I'm not one that does loads and loads of stackry orders, and it can be bad encouragement as well because I felt no point in spending $15 for international delivery, when I can just start up another stackry order (I did this with the red shoes) and might well have to do it again with this.

Having said that generally across the board they have been good and as I say customer service has been helpful

Saw Georges Franju's Judex some days back. this is a highly stylized escapist crime caper that pays homage to the Louis Feuillade crime serials (it is a remake of a Feuillade series of the same name). It has a magical vibe with the use of illusions and tricks. Fantastic imagery and Francine Berge as the femme fatale is magnificent.

There's an hour long docu on Franju in the extras, which compiles interviews with him at various points in life interspersed with film clips from Blood of the Beasts, Hand against the Wall, Eyes without a Face, Judex etc. While I like his movies (seen this one, EWaF and Spotlight on a Murderer so far), I have to say I found Franju a little tiresome as a speaker, a little full of French pretension and hot air.
