It runs along concurrently with the film and shows you the time and exactly where you are in the film (and where you are in the commentary track too if that's a feature on the disc). My player doesn't show the the runtime either so the timeline can be helpful for me in that regard.

Someone on Facebook who attended a screening of a 35mm print of The French Connection at the Library of Congress also learned that Janus and Criterion are sourcing the print for a confirmed 4K release in 2025. He did not ask which month, but it’s 100% coming next year.

This would be great if true and would be a good sign for the future of Disney allowing Criterion to release older catalog titles.

I'm surprised Criterion hasn't announced more Rivette yet. They also have L'Amour Fou.

I am still sore that The Shape of Water received the Best Picture Academy Award instead of Get Out.

I have always had difficulty immersing myself full-tilt into Guillermo del Toro's films, because the overly-artificial visual aesthetics tend to take my mind out of the stories. This one is the worst offender, because the combination of gauzy Cold War noir cues and adult fairy tale sensibilities has a forced video game look that does not work for me. It just makes me want to revisit Creature from the Black Lagoon again.

Still, after reading the site review for the new Criterion 4K, I'll be darned if I am not tempted to pick it up anyway.
