I haven't seen the Kino release, but does it have the additional 25 minutes of footage recently found that MoC's has?

Amazon has "Seven Samurai" for $29.99 again, for those that missed this price before.

Yes...Both the MoC version and the Kino version used the exact same print (PQ and time length), so side by side...they are identical. The difference between the two is the packaging and the addition of a commentary track on the MoC version. The Kino version has a nine minute documentary.

I watched Battleship last night and loved the quality of it. I've always loved that movie. I also ordered Sherlock Jr/ Three Ages too. These Kino releases are pretty snazzy.

As for Criterion, I finished Yojimbo last night and also loved it. Never saw it before. Definitely a different style for Toshiro Mifune, as he isn't a crazed douchebag like in his other movies. I'll probably pop in Walkabout later. There's a blizzard about to happen in New Hampshire today so I got a free day to just watch movies and what not.

Not the only differences. The kino release has english intertitles, while the eureka release has german intertitles with english subtitles.

My main goal today was to acquire the BBS Story 6-disc set, & SUCCESS! I cannot wait to start watching some of these gems/oddities & the great collection of extras. Looks like Criterion did a bang-up job on this set.

Totally agree, it's a fantastic transfer. The grain is so fine and some of the vistas in the beginning show so much detail I thought for sure it must have been shot in VistaVision or something (would have been appropriate considering the Hitchcock influence), but apparently it's regular 35mm.

And I cannot wait for Amazon to ship Army of Shadows. One of Criterion's best covers in my opinion.

Would the BBS box set be worth $56 for someone that has only seen (and really likes) The Last Picture Show? I don't have much money, but I feel like I could easily resell it if I really don't like the other films....

If you really like The Last Picture Show I would say there's a high probability you will enjoy at least some of the other films in the set. Five Easy Pieces in particular is a legitimate masterpiece.

It's a really wonderful box set overall, not simply because of the quality of the films, but because the supplemental features are so in depth and do such a great job of contextualizing everything.

Well, if you want to round it up to 50 years I'll let you get away with that. 60 would put it back to 1950.

Speaking of older titles, about to check out Ocean's 11 (50th anniversary edition).

I just watched Walkabout for the first time. Now, I enjoy snuff just as much as the next person, but jeezums. I do not envy those kangaroos.

I love Walkabout, but the hunting sequences did bother me a bit. Of course, that's how it's done but they were not conformable to watch. Reminded me of Cannibal Holocaust, although not quite that brutal.

I liked it too, and I agree, the animal killings were a bit hard to take in. I also just assumed, in the film, that the black guy was a man who was just really high off PCP, and was just running around killing animals because he was so high off his balls. It made the film funnier.

Oh, and I just ordered/blind-bought Sunrise from the UK on Blu. I've heard great things so I'm sure I'll love it when I receive it.

My dad was over on Christmas and has one of the DVD versions, he was blown away by my Criterion... That got me thinking i should go check my shelf and make sure it didn't walk off

7's were wild for me this Christmas, i got the seventh seal and 7 samurai. My criterion collection is growing quickly.
