It truly is a great film. If your collection doesn't have any documentary, I suggest you snab it, or wait for Harvey Milk.

Selling some movies tomorrow, and I might pick up either House or Steamboat. I've seen House, and I enjoyed it, but I haven't seen Steamboat. I'm still waiting on Sherlock Jr. and Sunrise, so I'm kinda leaning towards House. That, and I just love Criterion.

Not Criterion related, unless that picture of donuts ends up being a tease of "Fire Walk With Me", but being a forum with some savy minds and varying interests i thought i'd relay that Amazon has the complete Twin Peaks set on sale today for $35.99, which compared to what it normally retails for is an amazing deal for a truly amazing (for the most part) show.

To keep it Criterion related, i got "A Christmas Tale" for Christmas. Very excited to sit down with this one, although i rarely hear/see anyone discuss this film.

I sat down and watched The Last Picture Show last night. I was thoroughly impressed with the transfer. It's not the most beautifully shot film, but it is a great film nonetheless.

Has anyone seen Illusionist (L'Illusionniste)?
I guess it was given a limited release in the states on Christmas.
I hadn't heard about it until just now when I was going through the list of films of 2010 on wikipedia.

Nope, thought I am sensing a trend that Criterion has a hard-on for anything with Walter Matthau or Bill Murray.

He is kinda of a douche from time to time and has starred in some truly awful films.

Saw it last month in a film festival back here. Nice animation, if you liked "Les Triplettes de Belleville" you'll probably enjoy this one.

I thought I was the only one. But the show aired before I was born so maybe I have more of an excuse. I've watched season one with my girlfriend and its interesting enough even if you don't care for Lynch's usual style.

All of the episodes besides the pilot stream on CBS.com, if you want a sample.

Yeah, I've known about this film for a few months now, but I'm still waiting for it to come to Providence, RI. The theater I saw Rare Exports at a week or so ago has a poster up for L'Illusionniste so I'm expecting it to be playing there at some point.

Really? You were born after 1991 when the series ended? You're that young?

I saw a prescreening of it 3 weeks ago, and absolutely loved it. The animation is amazing, really captures Tati. The film is also very subtle, a quality I've wanted to see in more animated films. But my friends I saw it with (who don't watch many foreign films) thought the story dragged and read some different things into the story
[Show spoiler](they thought the was some kind of romance between the girl and Tatischeff rather than the father-daughter relationship I thought was conveyed perfectly, but i guess it wasn't)
.

Yes...I've been waiting on this as well. I really enjoyed Sylvain Chomet's "Triplets" and heard a lot of good things about "Illusionist".

i would imagine it being something of an acquired taste. it's one part murder mystery, another part send-up of soap opera drama and all of it is completely strange. it was assuredly the groundbreaker for shows like "X-Files" and "LOST". i was 9 when it came out and only had passing memories of it, and through the years seeing an episode or two here or there. a week or two ago i got the gold box and have been loving (nearly) every second of this show. David Lynch, along with his way of creating dream-like realities, has this incredible understanding of dread. Even as an adult that is well-versed in horror films and, sadly, rarely gets scared anymore, there is some genuinely frightening imagery and feeling within.

as someone mentioned, you can see everything but the pilot on CBS.com. i urge you to check out the first two episodes (the second being one of the best) and see if ya like it and try and take advantage of the sale. even if you miss the sale, i thinks its still worth whatever the cost.

David Lynch's work usually scares me much more than straight up horror films.

I was born in 1991, so you're like, the fourth youngest or something.
