Even though there had been discussion this week about the next set of Criterion US title announcements, despite usually being up to speed with nearly everything (label announcements, start of sales etc.) I didn't know there had been some new Criterion announcements until visiting the forum tonight.

Don't have the Studiocanal UK Blu-ray release of the two seventies Musketeers films (have seen both from television screenings and the late-eighties film at the cinema (think I saw that on it's original UK cinema release).

I hope Criterion will release "At Play in the Fields of the Lord", one of the best films I have seen. A 4K would be good:

I try not to complain about the lack of HDR in every release since I get it, some aren't able to for a variety of reasons.

But this needed it more than any other movie in the history of cinema.

Will be getting Umbrellas 4K. Saw this one in theaters last week and it looked amazing though the older Blu-ray's 2K restoration was already so amazing on its own that I couldn't really tell the difference between the two restorations. The only thing is I still haven't bought this film on disc so this 4K is a good excuse for me to finally own a copy of this film. This also happens to be my most watched musical as well and I would think it would stay like that for years to come.

Killer of Sheep is a title I've been meaning to watch for a while now so I will give this a watch. This and I Am Cuba are some of the greats that I have always heard great things about but recognized as not having a particularly strong history on physical media.

I'll take a Powell and Pressburger B&W box set (with I Know Where I'm Going and The Small Back Room) for $50, Alex. 49th Parallel would be particularly poignant given recent rumblings south of the border. Really odd that of the four films, The Small Back Room is available on 4K and the others aren't even available on BD. The vicissitudes of BD releases are beyond me.

Lean's Great Expectations is available on BD from ITV, but I assume we will never get Oliver Twist because of Alec Guinness' unfortunate prosthesis (although Criterion still sells the DVD). Pity, it and GE are the best adaptations of Dickens to film, I suppose we will have to make do with the execrable musical.

Powell and Pressburger are my favourite filmmakers by far and that there is still so much unavailable on blu or 4k in English speaking countries is close to an artistic crime.

I would love Criterion, since they are the only US distributor who have a relationship with ITV, to bring us some of the ones that are missing.

Also, David Lean on 4k, yes please @Criterion.

Not a bad month of announcements. I never heard of Killer of Sheep so I might "try before I buy." I like the two film Musketeers set and the 4k upgrade of Withnail and I as well (an old fashioned blu-ray upgrade of Advertising is sufficient too). Plus, it's always good to see another Kiarostami film in the collection.

Yeah, I misremembered, it's a BD release based on a 4K restoration. The point still stands, not even a BD of Canterbury Tale, I Know Where I'm Going or 49th Parallel.

I'm predicting we get White Dog in June from Criterion I really think this might be the year White Dog gets a Blu-Ray release from Criterion. If I'm wrong on this so be it, but I don't know I just have a strong feeling this might be the year.

Not yet nope not currently it did get a French Blu-Ray this year though

Saw the dawn of the discs post and came here to see if the American Psycho screening this past Friday was the source. I was there, she said it's coming "next year." Wasn't any other discussion or comments about physical media
