Geez...what's with all the complaints?
First of all, a company like Criterion can release only so many titles per year. There's a lot to managing these releases - the creation of the extras, the remastering, packaging etc. Beyond that there are tons of rights issues. And especially on the films they already have on DVD, they don't necessarily have the explicit rights to also do the Blu release. And even when they do, there may be new advances, guarantees or backend participations that have to be paid. This is all very complex and can be very expensive for them and certainly affect cash flow. Furthermore, if you look at the best selling Blu titles, you'll find that once you're down to the 4th or 5th bestselling title, it's selling only 15-20% of the #1 title. And once you get down to the 10th title, it's selling only 5% or less of the bestselling title. Criterion's titles are almost never on the list at all. So they're simply not selling that many titles in Blu format. So let's cut them some slack. As the Blu market grows (which, in $, is currently only 15% of the overall market for physical video media), they'll be able to release more titles. Not every title has to be released right now just because you're too impatient to wait. But there's also a downside to a growing market: when the Blu market becomes substantial, studios who can release and market titles effectively on their own are going to be less likely to license the titles to Criterion. |

Too bad I changed my avatar to a film I like and not something an IMDB list told me about. F you CG for doing that. You keep your mouth shut about Criterion. |

I'm such a f-star-star-star-ing humanitarian, I hope they do release The Last Movie in either and/or both formats, not, as you may suppose, just to shut you up, but because I like to see my lil droogies happy, but the conspiracy theory formation you should leave to the the pro's, capiche? |

For those interested: The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie is about to come on the Sundance Channel. They also played Diary of a Chambermaid, but I missed it and now it's over.
Also A+ for that picture Beta. ![]() Last edited by keldons; 12-30-2010 at 03:49 AM. |

I just got done watching the Criterion DVD of How to get ahead in advertising. I must say that I found it to be quite funny and really enjoyed Grants performance as Bagley. He is a very intelligent and funny character who really does know how advertising works.
I knew this film was considered satire but I found plenty of parts to be laugh out loud funny as well. Pure comedy in every sense. If there are any negatives, my two complaints are: 1.That during the second half of the film, the comedy takes a back seat as the boil begins to take over completely after the surgery. To me, part of the comedy came from Bagley trying to be normal with his situation going on. Although the tide was turned when HE beacme the boil, so to speak, the movie never really get back into full-on comedy mode. 2. Also, the ending wasn't quite satisfying for me. I felt that absolutely nothing was actually resolved...the movie just leaves us hanging with another rant about advertising... ![]() Having said all that, I did enjoy the film and would give it 2.5/4 stars and I would recommend it to friends for some good laughs and a movie with a truly unique twist on the "man goes crazy from stress" story. ![]() Last edited by painted_klown; 12-30-2010 at 03:56 AM. |

Question: Does anyone think we will get a blu set of The Human Condition anytime? I noticed it was released last year when Criterion was still easing into Blu releases, so I'm wondering if they just didn't want to invest in putting out a huge release like that when they were still testing the waters. Would be a great release. |
