Granted, I also think Umbrella would've done the US partner label release already since they already announced the 4K in Australia. If not for Umbrella, my bet is either Criterion or Indicator within the next year or two perhaps. Those are the only other labels I can think of that have released Ozploitation movies though Wake in Fright is not as trashy or campy as some Ozploitation movies and feels closer to Walkabout and Picnic at Hanging Rock in terms of seriousness and quality. For my money, I would love to see either Vinegar themselves or Arrow as I like their encoding the most (Prices and Arrow's customer service, however, I do not like). |

Hud could happen, though it just popped up on my bingo card today. Flow, I'd say that's certain, but it won't be the biggest title of the slate. (Had they not already dated it, I think they would've made Anora a July title, if for no other reason because they got first home video dibs on a Best Picture winner. The Brother From Another Planet...not sure if it's July, but it will happen, as it's been confirmed to be with them. I don't know the last time Criterion did a PD title, but this will be good. And unlike the last disc, which was taken from a print (it was still amazing), this time it's the OCN, so it will smoke even that old disc. Unless the rights have lapsed, it wouldn't shock me if Criterion does a 4K of Watership Down at some point. The only real issue with the old Blu-ray was some macroblocking, which a new 4K could (should) easily take care of. I Know Where I'm Going!, Barry Lyndon, Eyes Wide Shut, Captain Blood, High And Low, Splendor In The Grass, Ben-Hur, and Doctor Zhivago are also at the finish line, just waiting for someone to release them. If we got Brazil and Sorcerer in June, July's going to be legendary. |

I had forgotten the George Stevens documentary was on the Woman of the Year release. Since Talk of the Town was released in December, I am more optimistic that The More the Merrier is coming eventually. The news about Hud just made my week. |

Do we know of something being up with Scanners?
https://www.amazon.com.mx/Scanners-B...&th=1&psc=1&m= It said it was over $100 when I clicked it. When I came back a few minutes later to fill out the post, the Blu-ray was up to $422, and the DVD was over $550, despite the Criterion website listing both as in print. The OG Blu/DVD combo isn't on either website, so it's not even like a rare old copy is jamming things up. This is the 1-disc Blu-ray and the 2-disc DVD going for hundreds. Do we know anything? |

I think it's Mexican Amazon. I clicked it from the "Best Blu-ray Movie Deals" section at the top of this website. (Also, I'm set to "All countries", so if you're not, then click the "Blu-ray" above the search bar, hit the flag, select "All countries", then reload, and you'll likely see Scanners listed at $422.11. Click it, and it takes you to amazon.mx - the Mexican Amazon.

It’s never been outside the top 400 on TSPDT and has even been within the top 250 on there at varions points, so controversy or no controversy, I’m not sure it’s accurate to say it’s never been considered a great film.

The levels of history-rewriting going on regarding Last Tango in Paris is reaching insane levels. To imply it was never a well-regarded movie is just plain absurd.
How about we read up a little before making fools of ourselves? My personal cinema-themed library isn't even that expansive, and yet Tango is often mentioned, in books as varied as David Bordwell's Film Art: An Introduction, Ebert's Great Movies and 1001 Movies to Watch Before You Die. Like mande2013 mentioned above, it's not a stranger to Greatest of All Time lists since it came out. It's fine if you personally dislike it or just want to lash out at it on Maria Schneider's behalf, but at least be honest about it without resorting to confabulation. |

For directors who've stopped making films, we think of their careers in totality. That's why no one points to Truffaut's Confidentially Yours, Bertolucci's Me & You or Antonioni's Beyond the Clouds as the final say on their work. |

I think fundamentally, people are on guard against cancelling cultural figures because they feel it just becomes an obfuscatory way of justifying one’s own philistinism. |

Probably because we have laws that speak for themselves. But a good film is a good film, regardless of a law that a cast or crew member failed to respect. There are people on both sides of these viewpoints. A lot of film fans tend to respect film as a medium much more. Cancel culture works against this and can be freaking annoying.
The one that irritated me most was Grasshopper Films cancelling two Sion Sono films, one was already preordered!, because of "allegations". Some people don't even wait for a day in court anymore. Cancel culture needs to be cancelled. Just my opinion, don't mean to offend anyone. |

Although some very famous directors who were lauded back in those days have pretty much lost their legacies, such as Claude LeLouch, I would never claim that for Bertolucci or Truffaut or Antonioni, just that their stars aren't as shiny as they once were. To respond to the post above yours from my old buddy Cremildo regarding LAST TANGO IN PARIS, there is no revisionist history from me, it was very well regarded during its tenure and after, but recently took a hit with the behind the scenes revelations and for good reason. I personally do not find much worth in most of Bertolucci's work anymore and now watch them just to catalog how many scenes cater to his foot fetishism, ala Tarantino. |
