Really strong month. Amazingly, nearly every single title is new HD worldwide. That's an incredible feat.

Cairo Station: New to HD worldwide
Compensation: New to HD worldwide
Fires on the Plain: New to HD worldwide
Mahjong: New to HD worldwide
Saving Face: New to HD worldwide
Shoeshine: New to HD worldwide

The Burmese Harp was previously released on BD by Eureka but is now OOP. This will be the film's 4K debut (A JP release also coming out a day after the CC release). Confucian Confusion had two Blu-ray releases previously, one in Japan (w/o English subs).

It's really impossible to please everyone. When Criterion announces very big and iconic movies coming to UHD, then there are rants of "why nothing new to HD?". But when Criterion does a month of generally new-to-HD movies, then the people who are only interested on the big movies will complain (let's face it, the really big movies have been on BD a long time, anything new to HD is going to be far less popular).

No matter what Criterion does, there are going to be people whining. Ultimately, all complaints really boil down to just "but not the films I wanted". First, be open-minded and give chances to more movies. Second, the world of films is so vast and diverse that it is impossible to make any list that will tailor to everyone's tastes.

Incredible month! I'm in for the Ichikawa upgrades, Yang double, Shoeshine, and Cairo Station at least. Criterion really seems to be working overtime getting as many "long awaited" titles out as many of these either have been OOP for a long time or never even got a US DVD.

I’m fine with this. While there’s nothing I’m necessarily needing from this lineup, it’ll help give my wallet a break. Especially because July will be catchup month with the B&N sale.

Interested in picking up Shoeshine and the Ichikawa’s at some point.

Fires on the Plain is literally one of the best films ever made PERIOD. Burmese Harp is good too, but I love Fires much more.

When I started getting rid of all my DVD's I kept maybe 30 or so, and Fires is one of them. Holy crap is this good news. I knew Burmese Harp was coming, but wasn't sure if Criterion would also release Fires.

After this, I don't want to hear anything in the rest of the year that is DukeTogo84 complaining about UHD upgrades of much bigger movies. 7 new to HD movies in a single month is incredible!

It’s OOP and goes for stupid money but The Burmese Harp has a blu ray by Eureka in the UK

Glad about the two Edward Yang's films, but bundled as one release, blu-ray only, one of the extras was copied from the release of A Brighter Summer Day, I truly hope Criterion could do more than this...

These films aren't for everyone. Judging by the mostly positive feedback, I think Criterion's target audience is happy. In their eyes, Criterion has done their job.

There will be a day, I predict, in which I will finally purchase the remaining non-CC Wes Anderson films and then, on the following day, CC will announce their release. Mark. My. Words.
