someone posted in this thread last month that the Harold Lloyd facebook page posted that WHY WORRY? has been scanned for a Blu-Ray release, also mentioned in the comments there would be Lloyd shorts on the Blu. On that note Fandango at Home recently added two volumes of Harold Lloyd shorts from Criterion -

Sounds like September's going to be a big month bigger than August a huge focus on not just Golden Age Hollywood, but also contemporary titles, and Flow of course.

Here's what I'm thinking September is going to be for Criterion announcements not counting the Wes Anderson set as that was already announced.

Harold Lloyd Box set
Captain Blood I have a strong feeling September is the month we get this
Hud
Catch-22
Flow
Brother From Another Planet
Rosewood
A History of Violence this is exciting like really exciting
Dog Day Afternoon I haven't bought the original Blu-Ray, but if this gets announced for a Criterion release it will be a day one buy.
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore

I think this sounds like a great lineup for September, but yeah I think a couple of these surprises could possibly slip through the cracks.

Dark horses
Heartburn
Kenji Misumi Sword Trilogy
The Defiant Ones if Criterion has it
Dead Presidents would come completely out of nowhere, and be very unexpected

I don't know if all of the titles are coming in September, but I do think some of them will show up this month. Mainly Harold Lloyd, A History of Violence, Flow, Hud, Brother From Another Planet, and Captain Blood

Amjad's performance as the ubder-refined almost effeminate Wajid Ali Shah was the very opposite of his rugged and crude dacoit Gabbar Singh in Sholay
Yes, that was also restored in 2022 and screened in Venice.

Company Limited was also restored in 2022. Looks like The Middleman is the next one to be restored.

Sholay has also been restored as well! The first time I saw it was on bootleg long play VHS tapes brought from India. A restoration would be a revelation.

I remember that a few years back Criterion was rumored to be interested in doing a Bollywood boxset. There will be endless debate of what makes the cut, but Sholay sounds like a no-brainer to me.

I know Criterion worked on restorations four Bimal Roy films including Do Bigha Zamin, Devdas, Madhumati and Bandini. That might merit a smaller filmmaker boxset.

Plus there was a restoration of Pyaasa that premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2015. I would love to see Kagaaz Ke Phool and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam restored too. I think Guru Dutt is worthy of a smaller boxset too.

It won't be the same encode, as the Criterion 4K is on a BD-100 (with no supplements) while the older Fox release on only a BD-66. If it was the identical encode there would be no reason for Criterion to use the larger capacity triple layer disk.

Also, there are three Goopy-Bagha films.
If you subscribe to Criterion Channel, you can watch Monihara and it is also available on YouTube. But yes, it should be restored alongside the other 2 films. The Rabindranath Tagore documentary could be an extra feature.

I think I always counted Goopy Bagha Phire Elo separately because Sandip Ray directed it. I haven't seen in in years, so maybe I need to adjust my thinking.

Sholay has a 4K coming out of France this year at least. https://x.com/SpectrumAsie/status/1924763614746947913

If you preorder Criterion titles from places like Atomic primarily to get early shipping, apparently the label has halted early shipments to retailers so don't expect shipping notifications until closer to street date, maybe after. I know a lot of people wait for the biannual Barnes & Noble sales, I do too, but some titles I just need to get my hands on early - Sorcerer was one of those. Just a heads up.

I'm not predicting anything, just hoping for Hud 4k and High and Low 4k in September, a perhaps finally A Man and a Woman.

They release Hud, Raise the Red Lantern and A Man and a Woman this year and I might have to redact my statement on Warner Archive being label of the year. Those titles are all top 20 wants with A Man and a Woman being my number one most wanted release.

Here are my predictions. Hard to say how many other big titles we'll get considering we're already getting the Wes Anderson set, and two solo releases too.

Él
Captain Blood 4K
Flow 4K
Four Nights a Dreamer
Traffic (2000) 4K

Since there is a 4 number gap between Saving Face and Isle of Dogs, there will probably be 4 other new to the collection titles announced with no more Blu-to-UHD upgrades for September.

I think Captain Blood might show up for September I really do. Flow too

As for the rest possibly The Mack I could definitely see it, Brother From Another Planet, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, and The Year of Living Dangerously.

Yeah, that's why everything but Traffic are new to the collection predictions. I mainly added Traffic there because of a recent BBFC entry for the film from Criterion's UK distributor.

With all these Soderbergh titles popping up on 4K (something I’m sure he probably had a hand in) I can easily see Traffic being upgraded soon. Especially with it being the 25th Anniversary.
