Loved Cronenberg's anecdotes in his closet video. We really can't judge books by their covers - or assume that certain filmmakers, as viewers, are partial to films similar to the ones they make. Tarkovsky liked The Terminator, Resnais was an X-Files admirer, and now we learn that Bergman had The Fly in his DVD collection.

It's encoded by Fidelity in Motion, so even if Criterion released it, it almost certainly wouldn't look as good as the Second Sight disc.
All the same for THE BROOD 4K, for those interested. Second Sight also put out a 4K-remastered Blu-Ray, though it is Region B-locked.

I’m pretty sure Bergman had RoboCop in his collection too.

Terrence Malick loves Encino Man and Zoolander.

Based on the 2025 slate leak, it is very likely with a label and Criterion is a safe bet. Its 50th anniversary was mentioned but nothing about a 4K release, unlike, say, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, which is coming from Warners directly.

DOG DAY AFTERNOON also has a completed 4K DCP, so yeah, it's likely coming very soon from a label.

So I noticed there are two Barnes and Noble stores in Aurora Colorado that have the last couple of titles I'm looking for minus Bicycle Thieves of course. I'm buying One False Move, and The Wages of Fear online so here's my plan to buy haul on Wednesday. It's an incredible long awaited haul for me so I'm pretty excited about picking all of these up.

Withnail and I
The Last Picture Show
How to Get Ahead In Advertising found a store that sells this
Godzilla
The Long Good Friday
A Dry White Season

With only four picks, Cronenberg speaks volumes. Pure class.

Criterion has updated the extras for This is Spinal tap The Cutting Room Floor now says it will have 98 minutes of outtakes! Additionally more interviews were added relating to the 2009 Back from the Dead album. And finally they've also added an "Excerpts from The Return of Spinal Tap (1992)" extra too.

There's a couple smaller changes too, like Spinal Tap: The Final Tour year was changed from 1981 to 1982, and they dropped the 'New' moniker from the Oswalt/Reiner conversation for some reason.

I hope you picked up the Scream Factory Fly box set before it went OOP because Disney will probably never allow a new physical release of Fox properties. The Shrouds will almost certainly be included in next Tuesday's announcements.

And we just got The Abyss and Tombstone not long ago. Rocky Horror is on the way. Master and Commander should be announced for US release soon. (Not to mention the ongoing rumors that The French Connection is imminent on Criterion.)

And Kubrick was such a fan of The Jerk that he seriously talked with Steve Martin early on about starring in what would become Eyes Wide Shut.

Seems like the only way Disney properties get a boutique release now is if the filmmakers push for it - Wes Anderson, Guillermo del Toro, Andrew Haigh, and Andrew Stanton so far. Cronenberg would definitely have the clout for The Fly and an upgrade of Naked Lunch. But good luck if it's a film by a director that's dead like John Ford, Howard Hawks, Frank Tashlin, or Robert Altman.

Disney sees that line of names and goes: "Who, who, who and who the **** is that?"

I'm honestly surprised they never did a Blu-ray version of the Ford at Fox set. Universal had zero problems justifying releasing all 14 of the Hitchcock films they own on 4K, let alone Blu-ray.

It's been out 3 years and the last pre-1970 Fox movie release in the US (not counting any of the Mill Creek and Sony disc reprints) until Sound of Music comes out later this year.

For reference, Warner Archive has released 8 Joan Crawford movies in the same amount of time.

And people had been saying the same thing about Fox and Disney at that point. They’ve been saying it since at least 2019. I’m not saying that they’re exactly shoving them out to the marketplace at a blistering pace, but the whole bunch of messages has been, “well, Disney is just not going to let this kind of release happen anymore,” and then, like, they do. We got All of Us Strangers from Searchlight last year after a flurry of speculation that it would never be released on physical media because Disney was trying to kill physical media. Then boom, there it is. There had been hot and heavy rumormongering that they’d even pulled the plug on Wes Anderson releases because it had been so long since Mr. Fox and Grand Budapest. It’s kind of exhausting.

That is why I not so jokingly posted that Criterion should ask Scorsese to ask Lucas to ask Disney let them release Kagemusha on UHD.
