Jeff on CF thinks the lady might be from 1949's Bitter Rice.

Seems like if it was Fishing with John it would be a different kind of boat. Don't they use a rowboat in that?

As someone on CF pointed out, "Amarcord" has snowflakes, but that one's already been announced for '11.
(Besides, they'd have done something subtle, like the peacock.)

I think the girl might be Summer with Monika by Ingmar Bergman. He is a favorite with Criterion and the film has no DVD release in the US.

I think it's Bitter Rice now. As Cinephrenic on CF said, the kid across from her seems to have a bag of rice (not a pillow) about to be thrown at her. Black bottoms on the cartoon as well gives it a good hint.

Now, boat, water, snow? The 3 biggest clues as why would he draw these clues on a boat, while snowing?

The boat meaning L'Atalante makes sense to me. Someone on Criterion's Facebook page suggested the possibility that the water could mean Breaking the Waves, which he admits is a stretch, but does seem like a possibility given that they released Antichrist.

Edit: I would like Breaking the Waves if it means that Dancer in the Dark is an eventual possibility. Mostly because I love Bjork.

I'm guessing that criterion will be releasing Linklater's "Before Sunrise/Before Sunset" films based on the briefcase being placed before (or in front) of the sun.

It makes sense that criterion would release them based on their prior Linklater releases, and due to the movies being very similar in style to Rohmer's work.

(And yeah, about Man Who Fell to Earth and Don't Look Now, too, although they gave away the ending.)

And Jim O'Rourke named an album after it, as he did a number of other Roeg films

That may be Insignificance, but if they are indicatiing a real film of Marilyn's...sorry to those of you who think it is Some Like It Hot. That image relates to The Seven Year Itch. But since the chances are slim Criterion got that treasure away from Fox, I think it is going to be Insignificance.

And I agree the globe in the air is The Great Dictator.

"Seven Year Itch" is a favorite of mine. Please say it is so Criterion.

That would be great, but highly unlikely as you say. However, the speculation about Some Like it Hot was based on the guy in drag, not the Marilyn image.

But it looks like the rays are coming out of the case (see its lower right corner), as in the glowing briefcase in "Pulp Fiction" or, much more likely, "Kiss Me Deadly."
