Fox considers Itch their own iconic studio classic and at one point was planning their own Blu which fell into catalog limbo ( ), leaving aside the obvious point that in either Itch or SLIH, she didn't have Albert Einstein's head!!!!

Well next thing. I as a fan want The Game on Blu-ray. There’s rumors that it’s coming to Criterion. Is it true?

Fincher: Uh yes.

Do you know when?

Fincher: I don’t, because I haven’t had time to look at it. Here’s what I know…I’ve seen two reels of it or the first three reels and it looked good but I think it’s a question of – because Gramercy was purchased by Universal, I think it’s gone under the Universal home video banner and that they have released very limited funds to finish. And I think that Criterion is having to cobble together…and they’re lovely people and they do amazing work. So I think they’re having to pull every favor that they can in order to be able to make the number work so, I don’t know when that is and I should.

So it’s in the future though…it is coming?

Fincher: I thought it was first quarter of next year, but I’m sure that it won’t happen if I don’t look at the stuff…

I would say that you’re probably involved in it in some way…

Fincher: No, I saw some stuff that looked…you know, again I don’t like revisiting stuff. That’s why I like to put as much effort into finishing it the right way the first time so that you don’t have to go back ‘cuz when you go back it’s like oh my God.

While The Seven Year Itch would be amazing if Criterion got their hands on it, I'm in agreement that it seems more likely to be Insignificance, especially since it's Roeg.

No, I just didn't have anything to say but to post that part of the interview. So I guess it is a no comment, but not a negative one.

What are the top five already released Criterions on your list to purchase?

In no particular order...

1. The Burmese Harp

2. Z

3. Three Silent Classics By Josef Von Sternberg

4. High and Low

5. Brazil

It's too bad I already posted that same interview text pages ago. You're late to the party, but thanks for coming anyway.

The only one from your list that I have seen thus far, is "A Night to Remember." In my opinion, it is a very good movie, that seems to be forgotten (overall) when "Titanic" is bandied about so freely. To a large degree, I believe that is due to a lot of younger people either not being aware of the film and the book it is based on, or not caring, preferring to be content with the visual Hollywood storybook of "Titanic."

I don't have many DVD Criterions because I started buying them when Blu-ray came out, so I've just been buying the Blus. I really do want to buy either Z, Knife in the Water, or Battle of Algiers on DVD.

Wow. Get a life. It's pretty pathetic that you feel the need to jump down someone's throat the moment they say something that's not to your liking. Do you do this in all walks of life, or are you only the king of the Criterion thread?

I just read up on "Knife in the Water." It has been added to the ever growing wishlist. lol

In my opinion, "Battle of Algiers" is another should have movie. I have seen it, but still need to add it to the collection.

Yeah, same. It's an incredible film, and there hasn't been any hints on a Blu-ray release of it any time soon, so that may be one of the few I snatch on DVD. If I do get any Criterion DVDs, it will only be a couple.

When I first started collecting Blu-ray, I felt the same. But as I did more study, I came to realize that I would miss out on a lifetime of wonderful movies, if I strictly limited myself to Blu-ray. You are right. Some movies will probably see a Blu-ray release down the road. I don't think it will be as many as we would like to see. I just don't see it happening. Food for thought.

Very true. There is just too many Criterions out there. At the pace these movies are released, with the addition of newly acquired films, it would take a very long for all of them to be presented to us. So, I'll probably get a few Criteiron DVDs here and there, but I'm not gonna start stocking up on them. I think it's best I don't know the majority of Criterion releases anyway, because then I'd be tempted to buy a lot of them.

From a monetary perspective, you have a valid point. Even if we can't own a lot of movies, we can try and avail ourselves to seeing them outside the purchase perspective. Thank God for The Sundance Channel, Turner Classic Movies, and even NetFlix, for those that partake.

Kiss Me Deadly would be pretty interesting. It's not one of my noir favorites but it does have a certain appeal. Meeker's Mike Hammer is less the hard-boiled gumshoe and almost more of a forerunner of the slicker, flashier 60s/70s PIs. In fact, I can't watch it without thinking of James Garner.

Though it's pretty unlikely I'd love the circled Sunday to be Seven Days in May. Has Criterion dealt with Warner relatively recently?

I was more a little disappointed to see no sign of The Killing. I know that doesn't mean it won't be released but I was hoping for confirmation.
