Got a spider-sense tingle that it will be coming out alongside Pan's Labyrinth 4k and a possible 3 film set with 4K Cronos all in one month

Altered States for me! I can finally drop the old blu-ray from my Amazon wishlist.

Oh crap, that's right! At least Cronenberg's a more worthy filmmaker than Baker.

Good, not great, month. No deleted scenes for Altered States is a bummer. I guess the delay was them looking through the vaults. The Shrouds not being in 4K is a otter travesty. What the hell are they thinking

Excellent month for Criterion, I'll be picking up the following with the 50% off sales in the fall...

Altered States 4K
Eyes without a Face 4k
History of Violence 4k
Twin Peaks 4k

With that said, we are at a point where if there is something I don't own already from Criterion I will wait for the 4K which is why I'll be passing on the Shrouds. It's same reason I haven't picked up Scanners or Valley of the Dolls. There are some movies I had held out on and this point I feel like it would be a waste of money to pick up something I'll be upgrading in another year or two.

Surprised they didn't include a copy of the graphic novel the movie is based on, since it's not currently in print.

I'm going to put my bet in now that the Criterion Fall Flash Sale is going to land on October 21st.

Altered States, A History of Violence, and FWWM will be certain buys during the November sale. I haven’t seen this Nightmare Alley or The Shrouds, but they look like solid blinds for me. I’m digging the Altered States cover because it looks like a paperback from the 70s.

How much do you save by waiting for a price drop? Can't be more than 5 or 6 bucks - Criterion prices don't go down that much.

I mean, a 4k that Criterion typically sells for $40 is $25 during the sale (or a $31 standard is $20), so that's pretty significant, especially if you buy 5-10 titles during the sale.

And sure, there's always the Barnes & Noble sales or Amazon's possibly cheaper daily prices, but by reserving all my Criterion purchases for their website's flash sales, I'm saving the same or more amount of money (which really adds up) and also getting points toward gift certificates which I can then spend to get more movies without any extra cost

They’ve regularly done this with many other directors in the mainline nonetheless.

Not much for me in October. Will probably pick up the Nightmare Alley remake and Altered States (never seen the latter before).

Undecided about The History of Violence but I’m in the minority when it comes to the cover art: I really like it.

Very excited for Profundo carmesí (Deep Crimson). The first Arturo Ripstein in the collection! I hope--hope!--we get El lugar sin limites (The Place without Limits).

So you want movies to stay on film or VHS maybe? They should never be put out in a higher quality?

I just bought Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me two weeks ago. That said, I will still be buying the 4K release in October.

I wonder if there's some issue going on between Criterion and iTV since they haven't released anything from them since the The Red Shoes 4K in late 2021 and before that it was Meantime in 2017.

Shout has released The Stepfather, The Company of Wolves, The Last Unicorn, plus a bunch of later ITC stuff. Not to mention an absurd about of releases through Imprint lately.
