For those wanting "The Third Man" Blu-ray, There is one on Ebay right now for $39.00 It is being listed as very good, because it is missing the booklet. Otherwise, the seller says everything else is mint. Maybe a spare booklet could be found somewhere, if that is an issue. Otherwise, that is a deal to jump on, in my opinion.

I would rave about, well, everything but I wouldn't know where to start.

I'll just say this - it made me want to learn German.
I absolutely loved it too.

The Transfer was amazing, especially since it was shot on super 16mm!

Just beautiful, and the characters...! Highest recommendation!

I'd argue that it's one of the best Criterion Blu-rays to date, with respect to The 400 Blows and Seven Samurai.

Let's not forget "The Thin Red Line", which I have yet to receive.

Modern Times looks fantastic too! The contrast is marvelous!
Very few things hold it back from perfection.

Last night I watched "Seven Samurai", and would rate it:

Film: 5-
PQ: 3,5 (It was beautiful, detail's pleasing and often fantastic, as there are very few soft focus shots in the film.
Contrast was a bit inconsistent at times- flickering from black to gray and back, and one scene in particular felt too dark, but other then that great.
Some parts had too many scratches and print damage for my taste.
All in all pretty wonderful for a film of that age, but I think it could look even better.
I had never seen the movie before, so I don't know how terrible it looked on DVD, hence the harsh assessment.)
SQ: 4- (I chose the PCM stereo track, as I found it to have better dynamics and no hissing. At the beginning dialogue was a bit distorted at times, but throughout the film it was really good. Music and sound effects were surprisingly robust, so for a film of this vintage rather impressive IMHO.)

I LOVE the packaging! It's gorgeous! I also look forward to checking out all the extras on and EXTRA BD! Yay!

"Modern Times" has fantastic supplements to IMO!
Film: 4,5
PQ: 4 (Fantastic! Love the B/W look of this film. Contrast is perfect!
Detail is pleasing.
Only hairs, minor print damage, and problematic wipes hold it back from excellence, but I am very happy with this presentation!)
AQ: 3 (Nothing to write home about, but no serious issues either)
Extras: 4,5

The production photographs look phenomenal!

The Thin Red Line is also a great Blu-ray release, but I find Revanche's story and visuals to be a bit more interesting.

I think what we see with the Criterion release of "Seven Samurai," is going to be as good as it gets, considering the original negative is gone forever.

I would trade my bowel system with yours in a heartbeat, CG. I'll just leave it at that for now. At least, I don't have Crohn's disease, although, sometimes it feels that way. On a thread-related note, I usually take my phone with me so I can browse this wonderful Criterion thread.

The circle is on the Sunday on the calendar. It's been speculated as Sunday Bloody Sunday. I hope you're right though.

Insignificance has been in the pipeline for quite a while. I recall it being part of the deal that included Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. Which also took quite a while.

Man, quite a few Melville films I want on Blu-ray. Army of Shadows is a good start, but films like Le Cercle Rouge need the treatment. Let's also not forget about the great Le Doulos. That's an excellent one.

Considering it's the only part of the picture with colour, I'm going to agree with retask, that it must be more significant than just being part of the calendar clue.

No doubt Criterion still has the rights and will release it, otherwise Lionsgate would probably already have brought over the StudioCanal edition.

I agree. There is, indeed, a red circle, and the movie is called The Red Circle.
