Nothing wrong in saying that you're not interested in any of the titles Duke. There were two titles for me among the October lineup. This month, possibly three. But am not in a rush to get the Criterion titles on my want list (not being complacent but I hope to get them eventually, and hopefully HMV do another Criterion sale, but I'm beginning to think that won't happen. Seems some time since they last did a Criterion sale).

I have limited time on the forum (can't get on here all day), so I have to make one post on the announcements.

Relaunching the Eclipse line, Criterion even made a new trailer for the upcoming Eclipse Series 47: Abbas Kiarostami — Early Shorts and Features.

Much appreciated, thank you. I’m sorry for your losses. It will take me a bit of time yet, but I’m adjusting.

I lost my dad a few years ago and it took me two years to truly understand how amazing a parent and person he was, even if he was always perceived as a bit gruff.

This last few months has been a huge boon, physical media-wise, to some of us - capped off by this new announcement of November releases. Criterion has really been shining this year.

There were parts of it I liked. One wonders how different it would have been had Kubrick lived and finished it....

I would still revisit it again over 'Full Metal Jacket'(that quality of that one dropped off like a cliff after the boot camp was over)

There's more action in that trailer than in many of AK's well-known features

As for recommendations, Simon of the desert is probably my personal favourite, not just from his Mexican films, but from all of Bunuel’s work. It’s short, strange, and completely unforgettable. Los Olvidados might be the most powerful of his Mexican films though (and the most popular, I guess), at least from the ones I've had the chance to see.

And if you're into Dario Argento, don’t skip The criminal life of Archibaldo de la Cruz and pay close attention to the music: some surprising musical quotations from there might catch your ear.
For sure. Yes, I am aware of the Radiance set, but thx for the heads up just in case. Have only seen Viridiana out of the three. Wasnt crazy about it, but may be due for a revisit as I watched it nearly twenty years ago.

Yes Los Olvidados popped back on my radar recently as I had coincidentally read an interview w Benecio Del Toro from the Phoenician Scheme issue of Little White Lies and he was talking about it.

Will def move Simon up the queue.

And Criminal Life I have been curious about for awhile as I’ve always felt it was such a similar sounding title to Peckinpah’s Bring Me The Head

It would be great if they could do a revision (or second volume) of their Criterion Designs book...

My only nitpick with the original was that it focused on only some releases. A book containing all of their releases, showing current and original covers would be a dream! And massive...

Back in the 90s I worked with a chap who had emigrated from Iran (specifically from Tehran) to the UK and it really annoyed him that Kiarostami and Taste Of Cherry in particular were held in such high regard. "Just men driving up and down dusty roads in shitty cars for two hours" he used to say. That was before I ever saw a Kiarostami film myself and it has coloured every viewing of his films - and many other Iranian films to be honest - ever since.

Oh, and this guy's favourite films? The American Ninja series.

The flash sales getting later and later to the BN sale kind of makes me giggle. it's probably like 12 days apart this year if 10/21 is the date.

At one time it was usually sometime in September. Recently it has been in October, right before the Barnes and Noble sale. Which is fine for because I can carry over titles for that sale.

Oct 21 has the 2 Cronenberg's and Altered States. Usually they time it with a date with big titles. But who knows, maybe they will go with September 23rd and throw us all off the track. That date has Flow, The 2 Audiard films, Misericordia and the just released This is Spinal Tap and High & Low 4k. It is the week before the Wes Anderson box set.

I think ideally, the four sales should be as such:

March (Flash)
June (B&N)
September (Flash)
December (B&N)

That's the most even distribution, and it allows you to pick up the titles that came out in the 2 months prior between each sale throughout the entire year.

I’ve already got my game plan ready for the flash sale and the BN sale. Down the exact cent. Of course, it heavily relies on the flash sale happening in October. But that’s what backup plans are for and I’ve got not one but two of those worked out to the exact cent.

These are the only sales I meticulously plan for.

Reminds me of how people's cliched image of popular French cinema is Godard and what is really popular cinema is bad comedies. Which is what happens when we only get the Godard imported and not the bad comedies.
