My only gripe is Days of Heaven SHOULD be in the top 10. It's a film where I think the director made all the right choices and everything falls into place perfectly. I love how Malick uses dialogue sparingly and relies on facial expressions.

[Show spoiler]The scene after Sam Shepard's character dies--- the look on foreman's face conveys it all. There's no need for words.

[Show spoiler]This is what you find in the music scene today. Lots of flannel. Lots of beanies. Lots of facial hair. No swoopy bangs, no skin tight jeans, no fingerless gloves. All that stuff was spewed out of Hot Topic years back. (I took this picture at a show a month ago)

Anyone listen to The Walkmen? I can't get enough of them and don't understand why they haven't blown up yet. It's great that I can still see them at smaller venues (Lee's Palace, The Horseshoe & The Phoenix) but I would like to see a greater appreciation of their music. They had a song in In Bruges which was a great film.

One of my favourite releases of the year was The Red Shoes. This was a blind buy for me and I absolutely loved it. I actually would have played it again immediately afterward if my girlfriend wasn't there to awaken me from my trance. I even purchased a copy for my assistant for Christmas.

It's just a visually stunning movie. That and The Thin Red Line.

Can you see the report card totals for each movie? For some reason, it is not showing for me. Glad to see Criterion kicking butt and taking names.

And the hipster thing. I wear Vans and Converse, though never wore skinny jeans. Can't fit my 3rd leg in them. I wear tighter jeans but not those "skinny" jeans that fans of "bands" that wear finger-less gloves wear. That brings me to this. Who started this new fashion for this new "rock" era? The striped mittens. The short hair with long glued to the forehead bangs. And what is with the singing like a girl on the verses then yelling on the chorus and no one can figure out WTF they are saying? What happened to mainstream rock? Damn you Guns N Roses for breaking up! It use to be dress up like a girl to get laid. Now it's dress up like a girl to get the Twilight fans to buy your cd.
Great post!

My wife calls me a nerd but that's because I like Star Wars. As she got to know me better, I was a nerd because I liked all sorts of movies, listened to Nine Inch Nails and Tool (among many others), showcased coffee table books of Greatest 100 films ever made, Pink Floyd, and U2 on my coffee table, and loved my home theatre more than anything else. Oh, and I have no table manners

She is hot so I don't mind.

Back on topic though...I'm loving this New Year's card thing! I didn't start collecting until about April or May of '10 so I missed the 2010 card and all of its clues.

That is a funny commercial, but it's not enough to make me and others stop wearing skinny jeans.

Not official until Criterion actually announces that.

I'm really wondering about it. I debated about picking it up during the B&N sale, didn't, and now I'm regretting it.

Whatever, but B&Ns in my area all have them in stock. As does Criterion. Just in case someone is seriously thinking about paying 75 bucks. Probably will be showing up in plastic cases next time stores, online and otherwise, get restocked.

Chungking Express is showing as "In Stock" on Criterion's website.....

I'd order it now if you're concerned.

I'm in no rush to order the film, but if I see it restocked in plastic cases, I might pull the trigger on it.

Just curious, El Norte is described and categorized as a thriller. Is it truly a thrilling film? Like, any tense sequences or what not?
