It does have the same pretty actress, but other than that......
btw: I was totally stoked for "train", but I gotta admit it just didn't wow me like I was hoping.
I love train films, and I guess my expectations were too high.
Same here...and I really wanted to like it enough to justify the purchase of the DVD. Hopefully if CC gets the blu rights for it in the future, we'll all have another shot at it.

Any idea when this 3 for 2 sale is officially over?

On imdb, Night Train is credited as a spinoff to Lady Vanishes...

from imdb:

Spin off from
The Lady Vanishes (1938)
- This is a spin-off of The Lady Vanishes. It does follow the movie

Can anyone explain what that means?

Thanks!
I wouldn't say it was a spinoff. It was written by the same author as The Lady vanishes and has Charters and Caldicott, the comic reliefs, in it. It was directed by Carol Reed. The third man. Pretty good film.

Personally, as far as Criterion titles go, I've resigned myself to just saving up for the 50% off and holiday sales. I'll pick up an odd disc on sale here or use a 50% Borders coupon there, but otherwise I'd rather wait it out and stretch the money. Solaris will be the exception this year as I want that one ASAP.
yeah, hopefully I'll have some cash during some of the later sales this year.

The lady at my B&N said it ran for a month, so I figured 2/4. But, the sale will not work with The Double Life of Veronique (released 2/1) added to my cart, but will with Broadcast News (1/28). So...it seems that it will last until at least 1/28.

I cannot wait for The Double Life of Veronique. I've been so tempted to get the other version for awhile, but I'll just wait on what will be a fantastic release from Criterion.

Guys, I just placed a 3 for 2 order on B&N and it allowed me to also use the 15% off coupon in addition to also taking off the lowest price disc. They don't normally let you stack online, but this one did. The coupon, W3T8W7V was for non-members, like me...

I just got done watching "Modern Times." I was thrilled and amazed with the transfer in all respects. Outside of what appeared to be minute damage to the film that appears at the very top ( around the 1 hr mark or so), I didn't notice any problems with the transfer. I assume Criterion left the minute damage intacted, rather than risk further damage, by attempting to repair the film. As I said, it is not a distraction and barely noticeable.

I am so delighted that Criterion was able to release "Modern Times."

I haven't finished watching the supplements, but what I have seen thus far, truly add to the viewing pleasure and experience of the film. I highly recommend to all my Criterion friends.

According to the in-store sign I saw last night, the sale ends January 31.

My temporary membership is still active, so by using it and stacking with those $5 off a $50 order (remember those coupons are still good through January), I picked up the following for $19.92 each plus tax (all of which I wanted so there were no "filler" picks to meet the three movie requirement):

Cronos
Videodrome
The Magician
Repulsion
Black Narcissus
Mystery Train

Unfortunately, my temporary membership expires January 10, the day before the first wave of January releases. Don't intend to keep it, so will have to figure something else out for Army of Shadows and others.

Did everyone see the video of a Jason Polan Holiday Drawing that was posted on Criterion's Facebook page?

I'm considering picking up Pierrot le fou just because its out of print and still avaliable. The two other Criterion oop Blu's are super expensive now, you guys think that will happen to this too? Amazon and B&N have it in stock.

I really wish there was a way to get Criterion titles at $20 or less... I'd love to pick up Army of Shadows, The Naked Kiss and Shock Corridor in the next couple weeks but it's hard to justify $27 a piece.

Amazon is always a good place to try and buy used Criterions for under $20, or for a little bit over $20. Yeah, they're used. Big deal. Also, $27 for those films are really good prices when it comes to Criterions. Actually, very good. I had no problem dropping $27 for Army of Shadows. It's either that, or go to Barnes where they charge $36 for any Criterion.

If you are a B&N member, you can score 3 titles for about $23 each with the Buy 2 Get 1 free sale that is currently running. That is in store...not sure how the deal works out online since you're not getting 10% off for your membership.

I believe it is both. I was told by an employee about it in the store, and I have my BDs ordered in store so I can pick them up on release day and get the sale. I have also tried it online, as others have done, and it also works with titles which are being released in January, during the sale's duration.

I do not think you have to be a member. It took off my free movie online before I signed in as a member to checkout. Plus, in store, you just wouldn't save an additional 10%.
