I second this motion... and a fantastic intro song, as well.

Did you ever listen to the "The Director's Cut" album by Fantômas?

Believe it or not, I have never seen this film. I just thought it was a cool name that suits him.

Just looked and it's streamable on NetFlix.

Cool! Thanks guys!

You know how you can stream some of Criterion's films on their website for $5, and if you purchase that movie, you get the $5 discounted?

Well how awesome if theaters did the same thing? I absolutely hate spending $8 on a weekly basis to see a movie in a theater, only to turn around a few months later and spending ~ $20 on the blu ray release. I would love nothing more than to be able to show a ticket stub/receipt to a cashier at Best Buy/Barnes N Noble, and have the theater price discounted off the blu ray. Oh, how amazing life would be.

Based on the story, we already know that the girl likes him because of all the things that she did for him secretly. The way I saw it, it's the guy who needed to realize that he likes the girl.

[Show spoiler]While she didn't technically make it for the date, she did go to the meeting place but then left after deciding to go to California. I see this as her way of finally doing something for herself, that is, to follow her dream of going to California, instead of doing things for the guy the whole movie, and probably to also think about how she really feels about him.

When they met again, I think the reason, why she said she didn't know when she would return was because she still didn't know what the guy's feelings are for her. Also when he asked her to write, she said in a disappointed voice that he probably wouldn't read it anyway, which shows that she thinks he didn't open her letter. I think the boarding pass was significant because it's probably her way of telling him before that she hopes they can go to California together when she returns after a year. And when the guy showed the boarding pass, that's when she finally knew that he also likes her, which is why she offers to write him another one and asks where he wants to go. The guy then reciprocates by saying he's "easy", and that he'll go wherever she wants him to.
Hmm...VERY interesting points you make and I can totally see it the other way around now...I am going to have to revisit this film again, and see if I come up with a different interpretation of the ending.

It's funny how people can draw two different conclusions from watching the same movie.

i dont mind subtitles too much but not when it's the entire movie. i blind bought che and couldnt really enjoy that much because of the subtitles ya know. i did however loved inglourious basterds and there were a bit of them on there but IMO a good balance. i just want some great movies and i know criterion is considered best.

i hate to be one of those people that asks, "is this a good Criterion?" and / or "do people like this movie?! (insert a billion different options for titles) but i've really been interested in picking up Che. and with my netflix account having some issues, i'll likely end up just blind buying it when i get paid next.

is it like a documentary more than a film? or just kind of like a biography that plays out a bit like a documentary or time line of the man's life? (a la The Assassination of Jesse James / Blow)

i'd also be curious if it has high replay value. as long as i don't hate it i won't mind adding it to my collection, but just curious to those who have seen it, if you've re-watched it from time to time or not.

thanks in advance folks

No I haven't but will look for it. Now, how do I go about asking one to change my name to SpiderBaby? Do I have to PM someone?

Cool! Thanks guys!

It's been called "One of the worst films of all time".

Um, directed by Jack Hill. Stars Lon Chaney Jr. and Sid Haig. And prob the cutest "mentally regressed" (because that is what the film says they are) psycho in Virginia played by Jill Banner. What's not to love?

The films aren't "great" because they're in The Criterion Collection. Criterion just distributes films; Criterion doesn't make films. The films are "great" because they're well-made with engaging story lines to each individual viewer.

Criterion releases many "forgotten" films from the major studios that they won't put the time or effort into releasing. Every film released by Criterion, obviously, can't be considered "great" to every person. Hopefully, though, you'll be able to discover more than a handful of films that you've never heard of and end up enjoying.

I'm more enticed to get Shock Corridor first, but there's no doubt I'll be getting The Naked Kiss sometime afterward.

Also Jon from criterion emailed me out of the blue to say he screwed up. For all mankind is not out of print. And he is sending me the booklet for free. Had to pay 5 for the last emperor booklet. Pretty good deal

Do that. It's an album full of movie theme songs, including Spider Baby, played by Fantômas. If you don't know, Fantômas is Mike Patton (Faith No More, Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle), Buzz Osborne (Melvins), Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle), and Dave Lombardo (Slayer). It's a win-win combination.

Check this out! The song doesn't start until about the 1:34 mark, but I think it's fun watching Mike Patton orchestrate the rest of the band up until that point.

I would say PM one of the moderators/reviewers and see if they're capable of doing it, or if they'll even allow it. A worst case scenario would be that you have to cancel your current profile and then just create a new profile with the new name.

It's quite entertaining, looks like something I could watch a few more times although I've only watched it in it's entirety once....

It's not a documentary, and the portrayal of the main character (who you probably already know about) is considered "very accurate" by some, and "completely fictitious" by others..... (in terms of character etc)

The other thing I can say.... is the film didn't try to change, nor support any pre-conceived notions of I had of Che going into it, so I found that to be a nice surprise.
