I think I know what you mean. Some people are very casual with optical media and will leave prints on the disc or leave the disc in the player. Usually these are same types of people that don't use turn signals.

Anyone have any pictures of the new plastic case for The 400 Blows? Is it worth paying the $5 to swap out the paper case? It's interesting because I just bought it on Amazon literally a week or two ago, strange that those haven't been replaced already.

In my opinion, it is worth it. The plastic case looks the same as the original packaging, and is a lot more sturdy. You will need to keep the booklet that came with the original packaging, as the plastic case does not come with any extras.

I have bought cases from Criterion and have always been pleased with the quality and customer service.

+1

and does anyone have experience of having replacement cases sent to Canada? Still same price?

I would contact Criterion directly, and ask them about the specifics of such.

I don't think it's really worth it. The cardboard cases look nice enough and shouldn't really break apart unless you're the type who manhandles stuff. Save the $5 for another movie.

I have done it with Chungking Express and it was $5 USD. Took around a week to a week and a half to arrive.

Edited to add: With such a superb transfer, I wouldn't be surprised if Criterion gains new followers, from those that buy the movie not really knowing anything about Criterion.
He said best looking, not best, which would have simply been a wrong statement.

He's talking about about how good the transfer looks. You aren't correcting him, you are agreeing snidely.

+1 for the SN

Yes, it's worth it for that film.

Been waiting for Mellville on BLU forever (In US) This is one of my favorites, but I have Robinson Crusoe coming in on the same shipment. I always fall asleep to Mars, but I still love it. Something about the way it looks.

Criterion should do Melville's LEON MORIN. I think SC holds rights but it'd make for a great release because it's not available on optical format in Region 1.

Criterion should look to release most if not all his films. They're just so good.

I agree. I'm anticipating what a beast of a Criterion release that will be.

It's been showing on VOD for some time now, its BD release shouldn't be too far off.

Fish Tank was on VOD the first few months of 2010 and still isn't out yet.
