Wish I could find "Andrei Rublev." I tried last year on the Russian site, and never could get an order to go through. I don't see any listings on Ebay. If anyone can help with this, please let me know.

Can anyone please confirm/deny that Criterion is going to release 1991: The Year Punk Broke on BD.

I thought I saw/read/heard that somewhere and wondered what ever happened...

I contacted the seller on Ebay, that had been selling the "Andrei Rublev" Blu-rays. All the reviews are solid on the seller. He put up an auction for me tonight. Said he won't be able to ship for a week. No biggie. If you are still interested in getting a copy, let me know, and I will give you his name. Very nice guy. I was looking at his history, and he sold 7 copies about 2 weeks ago.

For the B&N B2G1, I went ahead and ordered The Thin Red Line, Antichrist, and Se7en. I know Se7en isn't a Criterion, although in my personal opinion, it could be. I think David Fincher is a master director.

So now that Y Tu Mama Tambien has been all but confirmed, any word on Nolan's Following? I remember that being one of the IFC titles Criterion acquired, but still no announcement

If they have the rights to Following, they should definately put it out. It's a good movie that they would probably sell a lot of since Nolan is so popular these days.

I watched my DVD of it a couple of weeks ago..... I still think it's his best work, but I'm in the minority on that one......

EDIT:

I should say "It's the one I ENJOY the most... don't think it's his best work, because he was certainly hampered by a tight budget"

Decided to make it a mini-Criterion movie marathon last night...no school for the 4th day (snow/ice) and I had tons of unused energy. Staying awake was considerably easier than when I sit down to watch one film.

First up was a second viewing of Last Year at Marienbad. This was one of the first CC titles I had watched earlier in the year when I started really getting into their films and collecting. It is one of those films that stays with you months later, and while I was watching it a second time, it was much easier to digest. I also had some ideas for what was really going on in the film, although so many people have had just as good, and just as rational a thought on its plot anyway. Who can tell what's really happening? Maybe that's just the beauty of it; you can't!!

The second film was Paths of Glory. Wow. Incredible film. I can see why it gets so much love here! The transfer was nothing short of spectacular, and the story was very powerful and moving.

For the last movie, I intended to watch Summer Hours. I've always wanted to see this film, and with Carlos now confirmed to be coming soon, I wanted to check out one of Carlos Assayas' other films. However, as I was browsing my collection, I saw Bottle Rocket and decided to watch that instead. I'm glad I did. It was a quirky little fun film. I can honestly see why so many people praise Wes Anderson. I guess I will have to give his other films a whirl and make my own opinion. I do remember seeing Tenenbaums a long time ago when it first came to DVD and I remember thinking it was dumb. But, I was also much younger and unable to appreciate the films that I do today.

Here's to waiting eagerly for Friday!

Thanks for the info.

This sounds about right. If I am not mistaken, Courtney Love holds the rights to the Nirvana estate and just milks it for all of the money she can...

There was a big legal battle between her and Dave & Chris prior to the greatest hits record, and With The Lights Out (and Sliver) being released. I just hope all of this will get worked out and this release will see the light of day. 1991 never was released on DVD, and my old VHS copy won't last forever.

It would also be nice dut to it being Criterion at the helm. There are a LOT of 30 somethings out there who would buy this in a hearbeat. It would be a great way to introduce more people to the Criterion collection as well as having a nicely preserved piece of musical history.

For those Melville fans, Criterion just tweeted this:

“@Criterion: Diving back into ARMY OF SHADOWS for its recent Blu-ray revamp got us thinking about another terrific Melville film: http://www.criterion.com/films/628-le-cercle-rouge

To me it suggests that the red circle on this year's drawing is in fact Le Cercle Rouge. Perhaps this will be one of tomorrow's announcements?

Also, Topsy-Turvy is down to 25.99 on Amazon.

I enjoy it. I watched it yesterday, as well. Like your son, though, it's a movie that if I had seen it when I was a kid I would've been head over heels for it, ya know? It would have gone perfectly with all of those old "Lost In Space" episodes I used to watch on tv.

I watched Shock Corridor (NetFlix) a couple of days ago and enjoyed its quirkiness. I'd like to add it at some point. Too many UK titles I want at this time.

I've got Le Amiche coming tomorrow (NetFlix)...MoC will be releasing it on blu in the near future and I wanted to check it out first.

Do you get worried about Mona at the end too

Or do you yell "Hey You guys! Stop That!" at the space-ships

No, but I am always amazed at how human beings are able to breathe-in the atmosphere of Mars for a limited amount of time. Also, oxygen pills... why in the heck can't I buy these in Walgreen's, yet???
